Thinking of installing a fan - what about a bigger stator?

Like the title says, with summer fast approaching Western Australia, i was seriously considering fitting a fan to my 09 FE570. Is it worth fitting a new upgraded stator at the same time (would allow for some upgraded lights as well)?

I have a rekluse fitted, so no bump starts for me, so a drained battery can be an issue for me (i have made a set of jump leads to use). I wish there was a kit like the DRZ's to add a kick start.

No issues running an OEM fan with my Reklused 09 570. Also run a trailtech HID headlamp with no issues, although I don not run the headlamp often.

Hi Colin,

Check out the Trailtech site, they do off the self stators 150w they claim, but you would have to convert your wiring system so your bike runs total DC power, and replace the OEM reg/Rec with an uprated unit also from Trailtech 150w.

I rewound a OEM stator for DaleEO some time back using the Trailtech winding spec and from what I remember it worked fine. Have word with DaleEO to get his comments to exactly what he was running power wise.

Regards

Sparks.

hopefully your fan will only go on in short intervals, and the electrical system will be able to charge the battery between there.

Just got back from a week in Spain with lots of low-speed technical trails. The fan spent a lot of time running but I had no issues starting the bike at any time.

Guys, this is all good stuff, as the fan was going to be first and then an HID light when funds allow.

I still wish there was a kick start as a back up, but i have just bought a new battery and fitted 2 extra connections on the terminals. One for the charger, so theres no excuse for not going riding with anything other than a fully charged battery. I also had a set of jump leads made up and have just to connect them to the battery via a connector block and i can get a extra dose of wiggly amps.

I carry a small set of jumper cables as well. Never had to use them on MY bike

I ran the battery down from so many stops and starts in a short period of time due to not having a fan, I installed a fan ,now I just let the bike idle with the fan on and the battery gave no troubles.

I got a Spar fan from Ebay for 35 bucks and went to the local auto parts house (AutoZone) and purchased another $35 an adjustable temp. switch (150-220 degree Fahrenheit). The sensor is a probe that is inserted into the radiator fins.
It came with all the wiring ,relay and fuse. Plus I installed a 3way switch to turn the fan manually on(in case the temp. switch fails) ,off or auto

I did upgrade the battery to a 7.5AH TurnTech lithium but didn't get a chance yet to see if there is a difference.

Also installed a TrailTech digital temp guage to set to temp. switch and take all the guess work out of what the bike is doing.

If only it had a kicker like my KTMs I wouldn't of done all this,LOL, but I do love to ride this wonderful dream machine
