Okay LET me say first , I love 4 strokes but all those moving parts scare me.
The only 4 stroke i currently trust are the 03-07 RFS ktm's. I would't buy another 08 xcf or XCRW for 1/2 price.

my main bikes the last year have been a gasgas 300 2 stroke and 08 ktm 300 2 stroke. I purchased the GG new last year and hammered the hell out of it this year 3,000 miles of enduro ST and DS rides and have bought ZERO parts for the bike (other than wear items chain , cogs, brake pads).

I'm a big guy ,6'2" 250-260lbs upper b level rider and i just miss the torque and smoothness of a small 4 stroke.

I'm about to buy a 2008 450 i want to know how reliable these bikes are .. It seems dealers around here are giving these bikes away in the mid $6000 just to get rid of them because when the 09 's come out they'll never sell.

SO should this bike be close to as reliable as it's RFS cousin??

thanks for the help

Yes they are very reliable but you will probably be disappointed by the soft hit off the bottom if that is what you mean by torque. The 450 is very smooth but rev's.

I have one of both, and for me the Husaberg has been more reliable than my RFS.

KTM required new intake valves at 150 hours, new piston rings, etc. WP seal had to be replaced a couple of times, and a bunch of other small repairs.

All I have done to the 'Berg is replace a WP seal. That's it.

That would be A GREAT DEAL in relation to what a dealer has to pay Husaberg for a FE450. I just became a Husaberg Dealer and purchased 3 for more than your deal. You may want to take advantage of that offer, if your concerns are answered as far as reliability. Hope I didn't mess up if getting Husaberg, if Dealers are really selling them for that. As far as getting rid of them because of the 09's, I would hope that the price increase, fear of no back up kick start, and new model efi jitters, would make an 08 something to be desired IMO Not to mention I have mine priced the same as we have been selling the KTM 450XC $7195.00 for. To me it's way more bike for the same money. Not to hijack your thread, but I would be curious to know if the fans think that is out of line?

I paid over $10,000 OTD for my first 1997 600. $7195.00 for a 2008 is a steal.

cajun

my information is that there are too many 450s in the states for them to sell them all. some are going to have to come back out to europe (sweden and the UK).

this may help you.

I'm very happy with my '08 FE450E and it's been as reliable as anything and a lot easier to service and work on then most!

It's last of that model run so it's got the bugs sorted out not that they suffered too terribly from '04 model year forward.

I paid high 6s for mine and with the across the board price increase for all bikes not just Euro bikes the price you've been quoted is a great purchase point.
Good luck with your decision but I wouldn't let doubts about reliability scare you off.

It is my understanding that the Husabergs haven't changed a whole lot from from the 05 version. The few changes that have been made I believe should be an improvemet. I have around 1500 miles and 53 hours on my 05 FE650. I bought it new 1 year ago. It's one of the most reliable bike i've ever owned. I change the oil every 3 rides or so, check my valves every 15 or 20 hours and inspect areas periodically, like the steering head for play. I removed play initially after a few months of riding. I highly recommend Husaberg

Our demo FE450-08 has done over 90hours of enduro competition with out a single part needing replacing just servicing, not even a leaking fork seal from new.

I would be interested to know how the 300 2t's perform in comparison the the 450 berg. By all accounts the ktm300 is a rocket ship and feels 30 pounds lighter than most 4t.

My 04 450 has almost 5k miles without any engine work to date so i don't think you should be worried about reliability on the 08.

Im thinking of swapping mine for a ktm300, out of interest what kind of mileage can you get out of a full tank one one of these?

$6000

For a New 2008 Husaberg? Is that US dollars?
BUY! BUY!!!
Can I have two, please.

My post said MID 6,000's. I also made a mistake that is not the dealer advertised price that would be my price. I think his asking price for anyone off the street is $7100 +tax that incluse freight and set up . NO bs like other dealers do.

I'm basically stealing one. My buddy bought a new 08 450 hasn't even started it yet . he put $2,000 woth of parts on it an deceided he wanted something else. I'm buying it for $7500.

Honestly i prefer my 05 GASGAS 300 2stroke over the new 08 300 ktm estart.

The only thing i like about the ktm is the estart.. The gasgas motor has less vibs, less hit, is waayyy smoother, close ratio 6 speed is better than the gappy wide 5 speed ktm. The stock GASGAS suspension blows away ktm setup.

on the USA 2.9 gal (don't know what that is in liters??) i can go about 75 miles @ trail riding pace.

I bet I know who that is, Does he live in Oh? And his first name starts with an S, and he had a FE650 with only 4 hours before that? If so I bought his 08 KTM from him and met him in Chattanooga to pick it up. His bike is certainly always a super deal. Thanks for the clarification. I like the no BS way too. Good luck with the Berg. Thanks for responding, I certainly don't mind taking close deals to get the brand established, either. Sounds like you have found a good Dealer that's trying hard to earn your business.

While bergs are not exactly like KTMs. The valves on the larger bergs seem to be way more stable than on my 525. Both bikes run like tops. My 650 likes more open type of riding.

Just like everyone else is saying 6k for a new berg is a great deal. I've been thinking of getting a second one myself.
