so to make a long story short, rebuilt this engine but re-used timing chain, just finished final tuning yesterday, 3-4 hours into its life the timing chain master link breaks, the lucky part---->no valve to piston contact, no gears damaged, chain not even damaged, was doing 60mph at 1/4 throttle or less when engine stalled and found no compression when i tried to kick it after pulling over, currently have the LH cover, clutch and head off....

the only bad part is i am still missing a small peice of the link, i have looked pretty hard for it but cannot find it any where, what are the chances of it making it into the right side of engine? i cant beleive it could have made it in past the reed valve, the only other way to get it there is through a bearing (nearly impossible) or through the small hole in the case back by the shifter star i think? maybe its stuck in a valve spring or something?

I found the second pin although its not in the pic, the part i am missing is the end of the link on the bottom right, i maybe found a little peice of it but thats it? wheres the rest?? broken in mulitple peices? one whole peice?

well i dissassembled and reassembled the valve springs, no luck, went through the oil filter and crankcase through any holes possible with a magnet, have about everything off the left side of the engine, tried flushing oil through everywhere, triple checked the oil i drained oil and the floor beneath were i pulled off the left cover, its gotta be somewhere right, its too little of a peice to ignore in my opinion, i am going to give it one more shot with a magnet and split it again if i cant find it, curse the luck........i guess at this point i would rather split it again than buy new valves, piston, cylinder head etc..........maybe i am still lucky

:D so after 4 hours or screwing around and realizing i could have yanked the engine split it and had it halfway back together in that amount of time (im getting good at this :? ) i decided i was going to give it one last shot.......squirted 2 quarts of 5-30 through all gearbox openings in hopes of moving it around to where i could get it (at this point im suspecting there is no way it can be anywhere else).......one last fish with a magnet................and voila!

Had some sort of a problem with my former FE400.
The automatic decomp broke of, including the M5 stopping bolt, nut and washer and a M8 camwheel bolthead with washer.
You dance like a little child when you find all the pieces
