hi all , i have a sem cdi all in one coil that is black in colour, i also have three red all in one cdi /coil sems.

none of them have any identification numbers on them , all they have written on them is amal sweden.

Q does the cdi sem / coil have a mapped advance curve? .

Q if so what are the differences between the black and red sem/cdi/coils, or do they all have the same advance curve built into them ?.

if anyone knows this would solve another head scratching session ?

the bike is a 1993 berg 350.

the ignition curve is in the coil correct and as i understand it the 400 was given a few extra revs - 300 maybe?

Hi Scrap,

Your black cdi is 1999 to 2003 of which there are three versions and have duel mapping, the ID code should be in white printed numbers at one of the coil, the red cdi you have is analog of which there is only one, as they say one fits all, as fitted to the KTM and VOR.

thanks sparks , i sort of knew you would come up with the goods, :D

thanks a million , that answers my question.

the bike has a black coil with it (bought as a non runner)

i tried a couple of red coils on it but got very little spark.and it would not run.

i had to advance the flywheel by roughly 75 degrees (minus woodruff key) to get it to actually rev up! with the black coil.

i have now dialed it in and it starts and runs fine.

Q do the early and late coils run on the same voltage?

The later type SEM does run a higher trigger and source voltage. But as one curcuit is digital and the other analog it is delt with in different ways, I think.

i rang the guy i bought the berg from , he is telling me that the coil is off a 2000 husky?,

did'nt they have an inside out flywheel ,with the stator bolted to the flywheel cover,
could be wrong about this, i've seen a lot of bikes in bits over the years :?

in this case the stator would see a flywheel rotating in the opposite direction , hence all the advance i have had to give it.

funny things cdi's

Scrap, I think you will find the 2000 husky ran a Kokusan system. Due to the way the coils are wound and connected this stator can be run in either direction.
The early stators bolted to the engine crankcase and the later type in the ignition cover with the inverted flywheel.
If it is a 2000 the stator should be in the cover running the black coil.

Sparks ,the stator is an original type(i think) , black in colour and bolted to the engine , can you tell me , do you think it will burn out the husky coil, due to the differences in windings?

or is it a case of suck it and see :) .

If your ignition stator is bolted to the engine then it is an early type, resistance test
Black to Red 1750
Black to Green 22 Ohms both + - 10%
This system runs with the Red type cdi/coil.
The Husky's ran Kokusan ignitions for this year (2000) and with separate cdi and coil.
If the Black coil you have is SEM then no it will not work with the set up you have.
The Husky's did run SEM but that was back in the late eighties early nineties, and were the same as what you have now on your Husaberg.

i was a bit confused about why i had to advance the flywheel, :?
so i removed it , and it looks to me like the magnets have been glued back in ,,
i think they have glued them in the wrong place ,
this is what the trouble was .

i changed the flywheel and put the woodruff key back in .

thanks for all the help and info sparks :D
