HI All,
I wanted to share my experience with a clogged fuel injector. My bike started to run really rough and was back firing badly on deceleration. While riding the bike, it would surge and sputter while holding the throttle in an evenly open position. Finally the bike would not idle. I would start the bike and it would fire and run for a few revolutions and die.
I started looking at the fuel pump. I split the lines and hit the start button to see how much fuel was coming out. Put my finger over the line and it had good pressure(back woods trouble shooting in my garage). I then started to move down the line. I took the injector out of the throttle body. I wanted to check the atomization of the fuel from the injector. So, I connected everything up with the injector out of the housing and hit the start button. What I witnessed looked more like a drip.
I was going to get to the bottom of this, so I started taking things apart. I disconnected the injector connector, removed the barbed fitting for the hose that has one phillips screw. I took the injector out of the injector housing. After I had it all apart, the injector was seperate from the rest of the odd bits. I noticed there was a filter in the top of the injector. I took that out(very carefully). Once the filter was removed, I wanted to see if there was any debris in the injector so I used a shop towelette and put some compressed air up through the injector. I forced the air through the openings and backwards. There was a small amount of gunk that came out.
Once clean, I put it all back together and the bike fired up quickly. I purchased the canam gas filter and placed it in line with the fuel supply. So far not issues yet. If you have a fuel injected bike, it is only a matter of time before you have issues. I hope this helps someone.
Regards,
Thomas
