As the owner of 7 Husaberg’s up to the 2002 model, I’ve had battles over time trying to work out what ignition is fitted to what bike and what reading should be on what SEM Stator. With the 1989 to 2003 Husaberg’s now 12 plus years past the last model fitted with an SEM ignition we’re starting to see many engine swaps so it’s becoming increasing difficult to determine what stator/engine is fitted to what frame. I’ve had a rough version of the picture attached drawn onto the back of a Husaberg parts invoice for some time so I thought I should give it some life and make it a more useable (for all) to use document.

I’m pretty sure that it’s accurate, but I thought best that the electrical wizards check it over and make sure it’s 100% then we can post for all to use.

It would also be handy to understand the typical failure modes that an owner would experience when testing, i.e. an open circuit (or) a high resistance of ….. ohms across a pair of wires.

If you see an obvious mistake or omission let me know and i'll amend & repost.

Guys,
Can I safely assume that with 90 plus view and no comments that the information provided in the sheet is correct?

Hi

Very nice board, great job !

Haven't checked part numbers, but that doesn't matter by now

You also have the FC flywheel and stator, but there aren't many around

Why have separated 89-96 from 97-98 ? and 99-00 from 01-03 ?

Good job

To be confirmed.
89-96 Stator wiring exited the engine via a hole in the 7 o'clock position.

97-98 Stator wiring exited the engine via a cutout in the 11 o'clock position.

99-00 Stator wiring exited the engine via a cutout in the 11 o'clock position with a different type of plug to the earlier Pre 99 stators. The other difference was the hi/low ignition system on the 00 FC models.

01-03 Stator wiring exited the engine via a cutout in the 11 o'clock position but was a different specification stator.

Im still not convinced that the above is correct. Ill check my bikes tonight and confirm some of the points.

I assume the last one on that list "2004 on" would include my 2013 TE250 ?

No, sem ignition hasnt been used from very early 2004 if at all after 2003, when kokusan ignition has been introduced as a part of a stronger ktm presence in hbg. Kokusan proved to be a higher quality product.

It would be nice if someone could list repair options for sem.

Excellent work. The only thing I can see is that the Kokusan ignition is fitted to the gen 2 motors starting with the 2004 model. Gen 2 coming out in 2001. Gen 3 in 2009. Gen 4 KTM motor.

Interesting point re; generation of engines. For the most part (in Victoria, Australia at least) the engine generations are known as;

Gen 1 - 1998 to 1998 (No oil pump)
Gen 2 - 1999 to 2000 (Oil pump version of Gen 1 Eng with inverted Stator)
Gen 3 - 2001 to 2003 (New Modular "Wet Liner" Engine)
Gen 3.5 - 2004 to 2008 (Gen 3 with Kokusan Ignition & Keihin Carb)
Gen 4 - 2009 to 2013 (70 Deg Engine)
Gen 5 - 2013 to 2014 (KTM Engine)

AFAIK 97-98, and maybe 96 s had oil pumps. My 98 certainly does, and predates the 99 with inverted SEM and PDS.

Hi

Looking at the parts manual I will say that the first year with oil pump is 95.

So no pump 89-94

Bahnsy

the idea was to upgrade these engines every three years. it went to 5 years for the 2004-2008 model.

in truth they didn mods every year but major changes were made every 3 or 4 years. gearbox change was also a major change. around 1994-1996.

Taffy
