this was the last of the old style motors. anyone know what significant changes this motor had compared to a 95/ 96 vintage? were the FC cams the same from 96 to 2000?

The most noteable I think is the addition of an oil pump introduced in 1997.

Last year for the old motor, first year for the new frame. Condidered by many to be the Husaberg to own.

00 501

The 2000 501 is as stated the first of the newer shape frames and indeed the last of the older original style engine. After recently buying a 09 450 (still have the 501)I can tell you the old 2000 bike is faster, slightly more responsive, definitly more powerful and more stable. The new 09 is by far a better handelling and braking bike. The dissapointment is in all the tech less 50cc for less response.Did I say the new 09 handles great!

it would be intersting to put that 501 (2000) engine in the '04 frame with reworked or '09 shocks. in other words the best that that engine and chassis could be mindful of time and progress. this would attempt to put it down to engine v engine.

your thoughts?

2000 engine

Absolutly as the feel of an engine can be the result of a frame and suspension combo.
This may proove that my beloved 2000 engine is not as good as I believe it is!
Im thinking on super moto setup on the old 501 for the street(funds permitting) this may show the engine in a new light

RE: 2000 engine

I have owned a 96,98,2000,and 2002 all 501s
The 2000 FE501e is one of the most fun bikes I have owned in forty years of riding
Light weight, great suspension and balance, great fuel milage(EASY ON THE THROTTLE 50/53 mpg) and excellant power
Well over ten thousand miles replace one piston and four sets of rocker rollers
The Dellorto carb was simply to work on and worked great, replace the needle jet every three months because of wear, no big deal
Very reliable if you understand high performance four strokes
I wish the 2009s were lighter, lower seat height, had a 501 with the power of the 2000 and got better fuel milage(very important) still thinking of buying one, there great bikes
have a great ride
