This is a hard one as allot of factors come into place.
How hard do you ride?
What is the maintenance schedule you use?
What is the compression like?
How is it running and so on?

A two stroke can last quite long if it is ridden easy 150 hours or more. If it is raced it can need a top end in 20 hours.

Is it hard to start and real easy to kick over or starter turns it super fast are the most common signs that the top end is gone. Has it lost power? Is it eating spark plugs? Take a look inside if you can get your hands on a bore scope and look for scratches on the cylinder wall, if not take it apart and take a look.

Hope this helps as a top end is not really a scheduled repair and is to be done when it is required.

Not saying this is gospel but my berg manual says 40 if you race 80 if you trail ride

I've just redone mine after approx 100 hours. Definitely better on low down and hill climbs. Bore was still good. Its done 350 hours to date and been bored before I bought it.
I fitted a Vertex piston and the instructions said 15 hrs. I suppose it depends on your type of riding , budgets and time

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm fairly new to well I'd say reborn to 2 strokes. I used to race 2 stroke go karts and every third race I would do a complete top end rebuild. This was also about 20 years ago and in a race setting.
