I have a small question about the TDC. I had a KTM 625 and it had a small stud that you removed, pulled the washer and reinstalled it in a small notch in the crank, this would would lock the crank at TDC. There is a similar screw my 04 450, is this used for the same purpose. :?:

Yes it is and is located at the front of the cases.

the difference is that on the ktm, you remove the thick washer and use the plug bolt as the locator. on my 450 berg, i had to make a locator bolt from a 8x1.25x40 and grind the end to a dull point.
 
Once I had got TDC I marked a tooth through the oil filler hole, when it is aligned with notch on casing{ I marked notch as well} I know I am at TDC. makes valve adjustment that much quicker!
