Hi All,

Still persevering trying to build/fix a berg for green laneing, and just got hold of a 2003 550 swingarm and 2003 650 FS shock.

On the basis that a 98/99 swingarm fitted in a 2000+ frame no problem, I'm assuming that I can reverse that particular piece of reverse engineering and put the newer back end in.

Q1 - should it fit without a fight ( or should I just swap the shocks, as mine is bouncy - no damping) - (205mm across the outer edge of the swingarm at the shaft end) appears to be the dimension for both but I'm not sure if the shock mounts are in the same position?

Q2 will the 98/99 wheel fit without new spacers or other gubbins straight into the 03 swingarm?

Q3 - is the steering head on the 2000+ frame longer than the 98/99 Estart frame (doesnt look it. (80mm as far as I could measure top to bottom on both)

This last bit has been bugging me since i blew my 99 FE 400 E-start, and bought a FE600 98 (I think) engine, and ended up buying a frame and sticking both ends of my 99 on it - the top steering head nut doesnt go down far enough onto the stem ie you can see the threads inside the nut which doesnt look right to me!

I did wonder whether the bearings were different but dont think they are?

PS noting that thread about breaking a bike when you dont need to, do like i did and park it in the garage til you get enough money to fix it, even if its a bit at a time
