What is the main difference between the suspension on the FE and FS?
I am planing to go from a FE400 -00 to a 650 FE or FS -03 but want to have both Enduro and Motard weels on it. Will the FS suspension work ok when running Enduro. Will the total sitting hight of the bike with Enduro tires be lower on the FS compared with the FE or is it just the how mutch the suspension travel that will differ?

Macke,

I will begin by saying that I have been told this has been covered before, but I suck at searching for stuff (lack of patience).

But, I was investigating this recently. It is my understanding that the FS is going to be stiffer. I believe the travel is the same. The shims inside the shocks may be different to handle the extra stiffness, not sure.

Yes, I think it lowers the overall height, since the FS tires are smaller in diameter.

The FE and FS have different brake calipers and caliper mounts. The FS is a larger disc with 4 piston calipers.

Will the FS work ok on enduro? I would guess it would be quit stiff, like an MX bike on the trails (which everyone says is tough to ride).

So, bottom line:

Different wheels, tires, capipers, caliper mounts. Somewhat expensive. Not sure what would happen with the forks and shock.

Hope this helps. Not sure if I am exactly correct, so anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

So it is better to by a FE and put Motard weels on it, i guess.

Yes, unlees you're riding hard on the supermoto. In 03 the fs suspension was different from that of the fe. In particular, they included a sleeve in the front forks to lower the suspension quite significantly.

I personally don't think there is a great deal of difference other than this except for the fact the the sm suspension usually comes with more damping set on the suspension.

My 01 FS while a little shorter than an 01 FE still rides very well for enduro.

You can still ride sm pretty fast with fe suspension, so go for it.

Thanks, the only problem is it seems to be more FS for sale than FE in 650. But I have to wait and see sooner or later it will show up a good FE
