My question,I have a FX470 [2002] model with a 20mm front axle diameter and am looking for information regarding how to adapt for a 2003 supermoto wheel which requires a 26mm axle.

So,can i get a larger dia axle or a spacer kit and will need to replace the spacers as well.

Ta for any help and hope this question helps others.

Semtexsam,

We might just be able to do each other a faviour here :)

I have a front wheel sitting in my garage that will fit the 01/02 spindle (from my 01 650) and need to use it on my 2003 sm as a spare wheel. Perhaps a swap might be in order - your wheel for mine. Obviously leaving room for movement cash wise either way depending on condition if required.

I am also up near Edinburgh (45 minutes drive away) between 22nd and 24th October.

I have personally looked at the options of a kit to increase the spindle size on mine and there is a kit available, or it requires a new hub. To do it the other way round like you need to perhaps bearings can be found to reduce the inner diameter?

Let me know if my suggestion is of interest to you.

Cheers,
Simon

I will have similar problem with the Yamaha front wheel I have. It has bearings that are bigger than the axle. I have to make up my own spacers so I will machine them stepped to fit 20mm or so up the inside of the bearing & over the axle. This might not be an option for Simon but.

PM me if you want to catch up while over here. I'm keen to see the SM race in Newcastle as to date I don't know crap about any of it. A bloke that I work with is good mates with the fellow I bought the wheels from. Both are competing & apparently the bloke who had the wheels (and bike business) is pretty good. My bike won't be in one piece by then but neither I nor the bike could compete even if it was.

Just purchased a kit from Dave Clark Racing which solves my problem. It is not here yet but well worth a try at only 10 pounds.
It cosists of a spacer kit that the wheel fits into ,will place a reply when it is fitted.
