G'day, just picked up my long lusted after FS650 last week. I normally ride a '00 R1 but after a long term fascination with motards I finally managed to work a few extra hours and shouted myself an '02 model to hopefully improve my riding skills or lack thereof.

I've only had a chance to go for one decent ride before I had to go back off to work for a couple of weeks but already I'm lovin' it.

My first question is this: should the bugger wheelie off the throttle alone, 'cos at the moment it won't? The handling and braking etc are mindblowing but I'm actually a little disappointed in the grunt factor. I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I'm used to 150hp with the R1 or if it has actually lost a few herbs somewhere. The thing has only done 2000 odd km's, the condition would seem to support this and the previous owner was one of those tinkerer types so I'm pretty sure the maintenance is up to spec. They are few and far between in NZ so it's not like I had anything to compare it too.

Oh, yeah great site, thanks in advance for any info.

Welcome slowpoke,

Yes, you should be able to wheelie off the throttle, unless you're really kack handed

Have you looked at the gearing the previous owner has put on there?

Cheers,
Simon

Just got myself a 2002 650 and it wheelies easily in 3 gear, front comes up very smooth! Without using te clutch or anything, just crank it open and up it comes.

My '06 FS650c comes up in fourth on the throttle with stock gearing... It's neat-o :D

Thanks fella's, looks like I've got some work to do to get all the ponies back in the corral.

I haven't checked the gearing but the rear sprocket looks OEM.
There's bucket loads of compression, it's a mongrel to start and it pops and farts on overun (how many times have I read that on here, LOL) so I'll just start working my way through the usual service items (valve clearances, plug, etc) before I go off on a tangent.

It's just good to know what I can aim for: third/fourth gear wheelies!

Stock gearing on my bike is 15-40, btw. Third is no trouble at all with the tallest gear I could find: 16-38.
