went practicing today.

mate of mine with a height of 5' 6" has wanted for months to ride a rekluse clutch. he couldn't understand the decomp, couldn't get his foot infront of the kickstart (with the taff crescent mod) couldn't start it.

unfortunately the ***** has decided lately that she won't engage without stalling and i haven't the time to check out the plate condition etc.

so i had to start it in one-kick three times in the paddock. at 5' 6" he tootles out on my bike never to be seen again!!! i think he stalled it, well anyway, a husaberg owner starts it first kick and rides it back.

a lap of the track for me is about 100-120 seconds. bike comes back to the paddock and i offer my freinds freind a ride on it as well. built like a tank at 220 or 240 pounds i figure he'll have no problem starting it. well he can't start it for love nor money and hands it to me. i turn on the ignition and it's running in two... then he stalls it.

he 'paddles' it like a smoker and i have to help again. his idea of safely moving off without stalling is to rev the thing up and dump a gear on it. bike launches off with front wheel pawing the air.

comes back and parks it up. turned out he'd stalled it and had kicked forever (or was that paddled? hahahahaha!) and again the husey owner found him and started it first time to the complete amazement of the big fella.

when i see him later i said that "she wasn't bad for a 400" to which he said he thought it was "a 300". he then described the suspension as soft (even though i explained i had a 1" preload spacer on the fork springs and was doing some testing) and diving into corners? yeh ok? got that? he didn't like the way the carb hesitated. total track time? 1 F..... lap!

later i see the husey owner who helped get the bike back. describes the carb as sharp and instant but that the suspension was hard. but that his standard suspension was as good if not better. total track time? 1/2 a lap.

the original rider? gone off the rekluse!

what did these two maestros of the brown stuff ride? well none other than katoom 450SXs and i got to ride one of theirs. you can't use the power, first is too high, there was only 6" of suspension travel, , the seat after mine felt like it was down on the board of a skateboard. bar the weight i thought it was a heep of shyte!

the big guy says that i was quicker on the 450SX and should get one as well....

what i didn't tell him was that when i'd ridden the husey and i'd pulled onto the track, i was shadowing him at a distance to see what he could do. i was riding so slowly that i stood up all the way around and riding in one gear higher. i rode so slowly that i missed all the lines. he pulls over - exhausted - on a straight part of the course and gasping for air says something. i then move off real slow hoping we'll ride for a bit together but he pulls in immediately.

the big guy says later that i'm "far quicker on the katoom than mine and that i've got mine set up all wrong". "you were leaving me on the 450SX earlier but when you were on the husey just now, you and i were fairly even..."

subjective not objective. leave people to think and look what happens!

there is to many of them sort out at the weekends, i tell my mates i don't think they could start my bike if they get chucked off, so they best ride their own.

Well it's been pretty boring on the UHE lately: leave it to TAFFY to open the bidding! Call me superstitious, or just call me a nut (no, really, go ahead), but I've always believed that some machines DO have a personality, and Husabergs definetely fall into that group. They're hard to start only if they don't respect the owner of the arse that's sitting on them. My bike will always start; I know it will start if I'm just patient with it and don't panic. Other than this, I believe it has been the most forgiving motorcycle I've ever ridden as it has saved me from some BAD situations at high speed whereby it seemed to be steering itself away from trouble. Maybe this motorcycle knows MY limitations! regarding the KTM's, I've ridden most of the big ones, and they seemed like they accelerating faster than they really were, as opposed to my Bergs which felt like they were picking up speed much slower than they really were. You can get scary fast in a hurry on a 600. I've let a few people ride my bike, but I prefer they demonstrate beforehand that they can start it. Anyway, my racing series starts in a week or so, so I'll let you'all know if I crack the top ten! Later, corey

Don't let them get to ya !
So long as your happy with your bike, what's more important ?

If you go round with them again ... you know what they'll be eating !!

Taffy...its gets better than that...as a dealer I cant tell you how many people come in the store, sit on a new bike....two seconds later...look me right in the eyes and say,"I dont like it" or better yet "this is perfect"... :?:

Taffy, the KTM crowd is a bit like that. Since you frequent KTMTalk, you should know.

I am not interested in changing people's mind. My Berg is the best bike I ever rode, and I grew overconfident and paid the consequences.

Yet, I still love the bike and can't wait for my arm to be healed not to function properly in life, but mostly so I can ride it again

Great ride report Taff, like always! I can still remember the first time I swung my leg over the Berg.... man was I intimidated by this bike. Now I am just totaly at home on it and naturally at one with the bike..... mmmmm aaaaaaa mmmmmmmm (like zen and stuff). When ever I swing a leg over a friends bike they just feel sloppy and undignified, no manners what so ever. I never noticed how undisciplined other bikes are until spending a few years on a Berg... civil and proper with the alpha male gene these Husabergs are.

Regards,

So, Taffy, based off of feedback from your peers, do this mean you are going to get a ktm sx so you can be a faster and better rider?

No, Brendan, I think it means he'll just get a 96 Fe600 so he can be a faster and better rider!

Taffy, it took me a long time to figure out American humor and then I finally realized it was all about bodily functions.

I am just saving you time.

Maybe it is due to all of those eccentric Taff mods? :D
See! I have just proven american humor is multidimensional.

how about the eccentric brendan nissin master cylinder? muts nuts i tell ya!

£41 off e-bay that'll do nicely!

Taffy

Takes one to know one! lol.
I would use a Honda cr/crf nissin or a cannondale. You will have to buy the Honda banjo bolt, as the pitch is different to the brembo. Some people also use the Husqvarna brembo mc, which is supposed to have a different bore diameter. I rode an '05 or maybe it is an '04, yamaha wr250 the other week, and the front brake was horribly dangerous like the ktm brembo. Based on that, I don't recommend the yam nissin.
