Anyone got any tips on freeing off a sticky gearbox.
Ive just fitted a heli-coil on the magnetic sump plug and now it wont change gear. My guess its got some swarf on one of the shafts. It just about changes if put some pressure on it with your hands, but it aint good at all.

Im supposed to be going isle of man on friday with it, but at the rate, my holiday wont get out of first gear.

Phil.

edit to add - Its been sat for a week without oil and no plug in the sump, the f*cker could be rusted up?

Well, looks like the od girl has fixed her self, maybe a night bathing in fresh oil was just enough to free her up.

Took it for a spin earlier and engaged all gears nice and crisp. :bounce3: :bounce3: :bounce3:

you've been promising her a lap of the TT aintchya! :cheers: :cheers:

regards

if its been sitting for any length of time the clutch plates have stuck together.......
start it[bump it] in 1st,clutch in,brakes on and throttle on and off...you want it to rock,the clutch plates will brake away from eachother in the end......dont give up,your nearly there.

Not a bad answer for a spammer

How about fresh oil and filter ASAP and flush that swarf?

I did an oil change on my 650 last Saturday and the sump plug thats always had a tight spot in it, even though I'd tried to tidy up the threads with a tap and die previously kept turning.

In the interim, I made up a longer, non magnetic plug which seems to be holdiing, and have ordered one of these;

I had other plans for last Sat afternoon.
