I have an 05 650 and I am lookig to put some stiffer clutch springs in because I am frying my clutch too often due to running nitrous in hillclimb competitions. I have also heard that you might be able to add an extra steel plate to the clutch to stiffen it. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you can 'get out of jail' by placing washers under the springs. i know of the two steels trick but have never needed to do it so i guess you'll be the first!

I dont want to be the guinea pig!! I was hoping someone else has already either been a hero, or brokern their own ****, so they can give me the answer!!!!!!!! Life is tough

(I did hear that you can put spacers under the springs as well, might try that)

As far as the nitrous, I wouldnt suggest running it just for fun. Not worth it. Too expensive to go through motor every 5-10 hours. BUt for competition its worth it. I run 5 holes with boondockers and they say like 30-40 HP more. Its wild for sure.

The spacers do work - just add them (on top of the spring) and you increase the pressure on the clutch plates.
I think an addtional clutch-plate shows the same result?
Done the washers on several bikes before - works ...

As you´re opening your engine every 10 hours: try to play around with washer of different thickness on top of the springs-> you´ll receive a broader operation range and therefor more feeling for you clutch -> could last longer

Let us hear the results

I will do, thanks for the idea. I thought you put the spacers below the spring, so thank you for clarifying. Ill let you know how it goes.

A suggestion,

Give Barnett a call and see if they can help you with some higher rate springs.

get off yer arse and check the parts code against ktm gear.

good luck

I'd go with 'Gokai 134's' suggestion of adding washers as spacers for the clutch springs.
I have done this successfully on my 2000 FC600.
As he says, by altering the thickness of the washer / spacer, you'll be able to 'tune' the clutch better to your own personal preference.
I'd imagine spacer washers to be alot cheaper than upgraded springs too.

You're replying to yourself again Taffy - I think you need a break. Best you come over here in May and unwind on the Force ride ...........
