Can any of the gurus out there tell me what the resistance to ground and the resistance between phases should be for a 2003 FE650E alternator stator. This unit has 2 yellow wires (as well as the igniter etc wiring), so I need to know resistance from each yellow wire to ground and the resistance if you connected a meter to each of the yellow wires.
Thanks

Try the"hard start guide" in the download section. I think you will find the answers to your questions there.

The spec is less than 1 ohm between the blue wire and the 2 yellow wires when the yellow wires are connected in parallel (together).

I measured 0.8 ohm between the blue wire and the 2 yellow wires when the yellow wires are connected in parallel (together).

I measured 1.2 to 1.3 ohms between the 2 yellow wires, and 0.9 ohms between each individual yellow wire and the blue wire. The yellow and blue wires were all insulated from the stator laminations over 20 meg ohms.

These were measured with the stator out of the bike on the bench, using an inexpensive digital multimeter.

Joe

Thanks for your help, I have downloaded the hard start guide and will work through that. I have found the stator potting is cracked in quite a number of places. Does this mean it is dead? The bike starts almost always first kick, but hardly ever on the electric starter, hot or cold. Will the hard start guide help with this?

No the cracks do not mean it is dead. If the bike would not run, then it might be dead. The black to red and black to green are the ones that make the bike run. The yellow and blue are the ones that charge the battery and make the lights work.

Read the Hard Start Guide and follow it step by step to determine what your problem is.

If the bike still kick starts, the reason it does not start with the electric starter could be one of several.

Let us know what you find out!

Joe
