When i bought my bike the battery was knackered so ive just bought a new battery and fitted it on to find the leccy start button is dead nothing happens when i press it also the indicators ect dont work dont no if the problem is connected to those anyone have any suggestions as to the prob.

Regards Phil.

Bike is fs650e :)

Cheers Phil,

New batterys must be filled with acid and charged with an external charger, like an Optimate 3 before they can be used.

Did the dealer do this before you bought it?

If he did, then maybe your main fuse is blown.

Joe

Hi joe i sorted out the battery myself as i bought the bike privately and not off a dealer, so at the time i bought the bike with the old battery on wasnt aware the starter ect wasnt working, il check the main fuse where abouts will i locate it

Regards Phil.

Phil, do you have a motorcycle battery charger like a Battery Tender or an Optimate III?

This would ensure that you have full charge in your battery. As Joe says, usually you need to pour the acid, but not always. At least the battery should come already juiced up, but they are not to their full potential and it is advised to hook the battery on to an intelligent battery charger and make sure it is charged fully and properly before installing it into the bike.

Then you need to inspect your wiring and start with the obvious. Is the fuse blown out? Is the starter solenoid dead? If you bypass it (careful with the sparks), does it make the starter motor turn?

Hi the battery is fully charged, as for the starter i bypassed it and it spins but doesnt turn the engine over, and the starter wont spin off the button. il try checking the wiring ect.

Phil.

What year is your FS650e? 2003 and earlier, you might have to kick start it cold, if the starter does not start the bike.

If the solenoid does not click in, either it is toast or you have a lose connection somewhere, or even the fuse needs to be replaced.

Did you download the service or the part manual from www.husaberg.se ? They have a good wiring diagram.

Hi il download that thanks, the bike is an 03 model and when i was trying to start it it was from hot.

Regards Phil.

Hi got the starter working was a loose connection on the ignition barrel, only problem is it was spinning over ok off the button now it wont when i press the start button the solenoid now clicks and nothing happens,

Any suggestions.

Check the connections from the battery Positive pole (+) to the starter solenoid, and the connection from the starter solenoid to the starter. They must be clean and tight, 4 connections in all.

Let us know!

Joe

Assuming you checked all the connections, Selenoid clicking but starter not turning sounds like the battery is low. The battery may also have what appears to be full voltage, but if it is faulty, it wont have sufficient voltage when put under a load (such as trying to turn the starter motor. If you get a new battery, be sure to fully charge the battery with a charger. Using the bikes alternator to charge a battery with less than 11 volts can cause voltage regulator failure.

Hi battery had a full charge but i will go over the connections and make sure they are all in good order

Phil.

Ok here goes, just been out and found the prob to be a bad earth so got it all working again only the new batt i fitted turns the engine over very slowly as in it seems to struggle to even turn it over, :? so me not been the brightest spark took the battery off and strung some jump leads from the car and waaa laaa still turns slowly :? and burnt my hand as the jumplead for some reason got a little hot, and to top it nothing works at all now.

I think i should have bought a berg off a dealer because since ive owned this one its just reluctant to start, everytime i kick it it kicks back and damages my leg and each time i try the start button i burn my hand, so ive come to the conclusion my bike just hates me :(

Phil, where do you live?

Maybe you are close enough to one of the other Husaberg riders for some hands on help?

Joe

Hi im in Cumbria Uk would be great if there was a few local berg riders but usually turns out people are hundreds of miles away from me  may have to pop along to DCR as hes based not to far away which is a good thing.

Phil.
