I'm in the process of instaling one FCR in my 02' 400, in this I'm having some difficultys, one of them was all that wiring and the starter relay.
So, because we BERG owners are a bit special (crazy  ), I've decided to change (again) all the wiring to the other side of the bike and since I had my old 98 bike right there and looked at it, also found a new place for the starter relay. Those of you that owned older bikes remember.

Here are some pics:

Nice work. :)
But isn't heat from the exhaust going to be a problem?

Hi

So far, no problem. The older bikes where the same with no problems, so I don't expect none.

ZAGA,
way too many cable ties and hose clamps for my liking. If it all slips a little and fate pulls an unlucky strike, you may end up shorting the starter cables to ground. At best you'll melt something; at worst start a fire...

I moved my starter relay when I was playing around with more powerful starter motors to give me more space. It's bolted to the rear mudguard like this

There are a few more pictures in my gallery if you want more detail (sorry for the crappy fixed-focus 'phone images, but it was convenient!). I don't remember if I needed to extend the cables, but I don't think so.

Incidentally, the apparently spurious red cable is redundant, left over from when I was playing with the inverter. I've just not had time to remove it.

Food for thought?

Cheers... Paul

Hi Paul

Your location its better than mine, in the old bikes we had there the regulator.

Your relay its not the original, yours its beter to bolt in there, what relay is it ? I just might change things (again !).

Hi ZAGA,
not original? I don't recall changing it, but there again my memory is pretty pants these days!! I reviewed my entire starting system piece by piece a few years ago, with any doubtful parts either modified, upgraded or replaced.

If the starter relay is not standard, it will likely be from a Kawasaki GPz500. I was given that bike some years ago with the intention of restoring it, but I've never got around to it. Too many other things in life take priority, but it is a good source of alternative parts sometimes...

Cheers and regards... Paul
