Just put my 2004 FE550e Berg back together after over a year of laying in bits. It's looking great with new plastics etc and it started for the first time yesterday without any problem using the kick start. Using the electric starter though just gives a click and doesn't turn the starter motor. There seems to be juice in the battery according to my charger/tester but nothing happens. Which positions on the starter relay do the black, yellow-red, and white-red wires go? I tried moving them round but only succeeded in blowing the fuse. Any help would be appreciated. Kieran

Hi Kieran,

Check the connections from battery - starter relay -starter motor - ground. Also make sure you check the battery connections themselves including earth. To confirm whether the starter relay is switching OK, check on the starter motor side of the relay the voltage you get when the relay clicks. If there is no voltage you can then investigate the relay or connections.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers,
Simon

Your battery may have juice but does it have enough juice? Hook up your leads to the battery and then measure it when you push the button. I would bet you have low voltage esp if it is an old battery. Like Simon said the ground is also important as a poor ground will act like a low battery. You can always try jumping it from the car battery to your battery and if it starts you know the system is good except for the battery. If not then maybe the relay

Thanks guys I've been through and checked all the connections, before I go jump starting the bike to see if it's the battery which wires go to where on the starter relay. I'm thinking there will be one terminal left unconnected and I think the black goes to the top right as other places blow the fuse.

I've tested the battery now and when you press the started the voltage drops right off as Bobzilla predicted and the starter clicks alot. I'm going to order a new Yuasa YZ7S battery as mine is only a Yuasa YX5L and I think has had it.
Can you jump start a bike from a car battery?

Jumped the bike and it started straight away off the button. New battery arrives next week, looks like It'll be kick start only till then. Thanks y'all for the help.
