Dropped it on the trail (irrelevant) and when I picked it back up the starter worked fine.

Rode 1/2 mile to the road and shut it off to wait for the stragglers. Went to start it and nada. (silent, no click)

Kicked it and rode on, then shut it off next intersection to wait for the stragglers again. Now it starts fine. Tried it a couple more times at that time and it spun every time.

We stopped 5-6 more times and it only worked once more. At least it's got a kicker. Anyway, the battery is 100% charged, there's nothing wrong with the starter, I jumped it from the + terminal and it spun.

I checked all the connections at the relay? (where the fuse, and hot lead to starter resides)I taped the starter button down and messed around with the wiring behind the headlight to try and find a short or loose connection.

I've either got to figure it out, or learn to kick it with my left foot.

I'm not meter savvy, but I just borrowed one to help track it down. I don't know where to start.

It's not getting any power, no click or anything. I took apart the (street legal) ignition on/off switch with the starter button under the on/off switch. It looks fine, I cleaned it with contact cleaner.

Have you checked your battery terminal connections and earth strap? sounds like it could be a loose earth/- connection.
Check the bolts for a loose connection, remove the bolts and clean the strap/cable and battery/frame so you get a good connection.
Other than that, I don't know. I'm no elec specialist

Hi,

try to keep the starter button and then pull/move all the wirings around battery, starter etc.
when you hear click, or starter start to work you have found your bad connections...

you can also try to get + and - 12V to coil of relay to check if there is some bad connection brom button to relay coil

I'm getting a tick, a faint click coming from the relay. Cant duplicate it and make it click on command thpugh. Once or twice after pulling the fuse and replacing it. And once after disconnecting the ground and hooking it back up.

It is very quiet, a slight click when pushing the starter button. At least I can rule out the switch I think.

Still getting good cranking speed out of the starter when I jump it at the posts on the relay.

I taped the button down and got a click when putting the fuse back one time also. Tried it again, and no click.

I'll swap relays from the other bike after work today and see if that's the problem.

Thanks for the help.

I once had this happen to me. sometimes it would work and other times it would'nt. I used an ohm meter and everything checked out fine. my relay would also have a faint click. So I dicided to take apart the starter switch on the handle bars and found some corrosion on the contacts. So I cleaned them up and it has worked fine.
