HI YET AGAIN ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED I HAVE A 03 650.
WHEN IT COMES TO STARTING IT IN THE MORNING (AS I USE IT FOR WORK) I PUT THE CHOKE ON(DELLORTO CARB) PUT THE ENGINE TO THE CORRECT POSITION TO START IT AND WITH A ALMIGHTY KICK ATTEMPT TO START IT . THE ENGINE WILL HAVE A MIGHTY KICKBACK ( AND WILL NOT START) I THEN KNOCK THE CHOKE OFF AND IT STARTS 1ST TIME(WITH NO CHOKE).THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS MY LEFT LEG IS NEARLY WORN OUT DUE TO THE KICKBACK, I DONT NO WHAT JETS ARE FITTED I WILL STRIP IT TOMORROW BUT ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT.

your technique is wrong my freind!

you must kick all the way through - do this and the bike won't kick back! remember that half hearted is rewarded with a kick back so you gotta try harder!

regards

Taffy

You need to pass TDC with the decomp lever. If the decomp cable is slack, you should have passed TDC by a bit too much but you can give it a kick anyway, it will put you in the right direction and you should not have any kickback.

If you get it right pass TDC you should be able to start it in a 2 to 4 kicks.

Like Taffy said: long regular strokes all the way to the bottom.

SORRY FOR SUCH A LATE REPLY,TRIED THE TECHNIC YOU SUGGESTED AND GOT IT SORTED ,MANY THANKS,TAFFY,LEFROG

A good priming technique is to give 10 to 20 kicks with the decomp lever pulled. I will suck in air and fuel mix and clean old mix from the cylinder and dry the plug. Then you try again as described.

If it still does not want to start, go back to the 20 kicks with the decomp lever pulled. If it still does not work, unscrew the plug, and give a few kicks, to clean the cylinder. Inspect the plug and put it back.

As long as you have spark and compression, the jetting is fine and the valves are adjusted, the bike should start.
