Question to all Husa-Gurus: My "96" FE600, purchased new by yours truly in 2000, was equiped with what I'll assume with a head off of some other model as it had no manual de=compressor lever in the head. It had, instead, a plug or screw thingy with an o-ring seal. The engine did have a kickstarter=activated decomp lever in the engine case sans bellcrank which allowed the internal lever to ride up against the clutch basket and fill, much to my horror, fill my oil with metal shavings. I was able to install the head-mounted decomp lever from my blown-up 501 into the 600 head but I had to fabricate a bushing as the diameter was different than the plug that was there originally. This I fashioned from a section of a ballpoint pen. The cam has the automatic decomp roller and flyweight, but that didn't work: the dealer told me it just needed to be "adjusted". This was my first experience with Husaberg "dealer support". Anyway, I bought my bike, never having heard it run, but that's just me. Now I'm rambling, so I'll get to the point: does anyone know of a proper part that will allow the de-comp lever to fit properly in the head, or is there a different lever for this head. I just assumed the head had been canniballized from an Leccy Boot Berg and they didn't put the de=comp lever in it. It also had the wrong carb installed, but that's a whole different story. I popped on the old 501 round slide and it's ran like h$%#^k every since. I'm installing a new Regina chain and I'd like to get my decomp lever to proper standard. Unrelated to all of this, I've always ran the 92 501 coil/CDI unit. Try some of this type of interchangeability on a Honda! Using nothing besides Husaberg parts, I have a completely unique bike! I'll appreciate any help here. DC

Your new bike was likely used as a parts source prior to your purchase.

It was quite common for the de-Comp shaft bore to be tapped and plugged when such an item was robbed.

You can't be serious! 8O So you're saying that all Husabergs should have the proper bore for the decomp lever. The "thingy" that was in it's place looked factory.

Hi Corey,
A 1996 model purchased new in 2000?
I am indeed very serious.
Dale

PS
If such came from Sweden the kick-start de-comp mechanism would have also been removed and the bore plugged.

Okay, Dale, I get all of it 'cept the reason for any difference 'tween the bikes from Sweden and those from anywhere else. Call me a genius, but I thought it was due to the diff 'tween the Leccy boot "tenderfoot Berg" and the real Swedish Kickstart Only Manly Bergs!

Corey,
Many "E" Start Husabergs were sent from Sweden minus the manual (handlebar) de-comp.

Said bikes did however have the de-comp shaft activated via the kick-lever mechanism and cable.

The fact you have no de-comp shaft yet a kick-lever de-comp mechanism is a smoking gun.

However, whom really cares as according to general consensus the old bikes are not worth owning anyway.

Well, now, Dale, as I'm assuming you're not part of the aforementioned consensus, I say that those who are should learn to respect their elders. P.S. We don't need no stinkin' oil pumps, counterbalancer, or Easy buttons. The NInetys Rule! 8)

Dale, having reread your last post here, I must say that last statement was indeed the Mona Lisa of posts. Is it possible I was hearing just a twinge of nostalgic(or romantic) self-pity? P.S. did you get my P>M yesterday about the stroker kit?

Hi Doc,
Self pity nostalgic and / or otherwise is not me. I am truly blessed and fortunate enough to realise it. My closing comment is more akin to poking one with a stick. LOL

No, I did not receive your mail.

Doctorcory....when I was much younger I thought I knew a lot, when my children arrived it became obvious that I was not so smart. As the years pass it has become clear that I know very little.I am now convinced that if I live long enough I WILL BE DUMB AS A STUMP.

I think most of the bikes ( my old 96 ) had those things removed because they were more trouble than they were worth. After I removed my 'thingy' and plugged the hole. The bike started a lot better. That didn`t sound right. Well anyway you don`t need it any way.

Correct me if I'm wrong (Dale). I recall being able to buy a 1/4" (maybe 3/8") NPT plug, drill a hole in it, and install into the plugged hole. I think that is what I did on my bike, and it has worked awesome. But, that bike is in a million pieces somewhere in Stamford CT in a box, so I can't confirm.

The older motors rule!!! I also agree with pre-oil pump motors being awesome. Wait long enought (ug), and we will all have a fuel injection system available for these motors!!!
