So I have a oil leak

My 650 is leaking oil from the center of the cases on the bottom. The bike only has 35 hours on it and to fix the leak I will have to tear the motor down to nothing. If I fix it should I be doing all the bearings and just replace all the wearable parts or just do a gasket kit and call it done? Or if any one has ideas to stop the oil from leaking till I get more hours on the bike?

First I would verify the leak. It's not impossible for the case haves to leak, but it's not a common problem either. There are lots of other more common leaks than the case halves. Depending on how bad the leak is, you probably don't want to split the cases yet.

You can try something like Quiksteel. Never used it myself. Don't know how others feel about it?? I would put up with it till something actually goes wrong

what kindof a hack mechanic are you??

lol just kidding i was gonna say the same thing.......just clean it good with brake clean and schmooze some god quality silicone over it.......

and if you did fix it and the engine only has 35 hours on it i would just gasket kit, no bearings or anything.....maybe dvsk or timing chain or water pump sealsor whatever other common repair items are needed on your particular bike...

listen to berger. it's prolly coming from elsewhere and dripping off the case. what year is the 650?

The 650 is 07. I will take a better look at it tonight. But when I looked at it the oil was coming from the bottom. I didn't see any leaks higher. But in going to look closer

My '05 FE650 also started leaking oil from where the centre case halves meet, directly under the crankshaft. My local dealer tells me that it is a relatively common problem with 650s. I think may be because the 650s build up a fair bit of crankcase pressure when you rev them hard. I don't think that you have to completely strip the motor to repair the leak, just remove the cylinder head and the right side crankcase half. I also think that there is no gasket between the centre cases, just a sealing compound.

With that hours on the engine I would try lots of things to seal it from the outside, even if the solution didn't last many hours.
I don't know how you call it in English, but I've solved some problems with one kind of silicone that is also a glue. It's used in construction.
The cases don't have any gasket only silicone.
The solution to just take the head out and open the cases it's the best, but its not as simple as you may think.

I have had this problem I just cleaned the area and smeared a small amount of silicone on the gap where it was leaking this worked and I fixed it properly when i rebuilt the motor. When rebuilding a motor i ensure there is ample three bond around cases as the 650 do leak a bit from underneath if not enough is used. I have also had a small leak above the oil filter between starter motor and cylinder where cases join. As someone said a rebuild is not a simple 5 minute job.
