Just my 2nd time on a sled and was treated to a near perfect day on the flanks of Mt. Adams. I was riding my buddy's antique 1996 Ski Doo MX something 583. Kind of freaky climbing the side of a mountain and feeling the acceleration coming to a halt. 8O Followed the good advice to "turn out of it before it's too late" or risk doom and a yard sale of flying Ski Doo parts! All in all a great day but but I much prefer to be on my Berg.
Dare I say riding the sled seemed somewhat like riding a quad. I had to use a lot of body english to get it to go where I wanted. Just par for the course I suppose. I had a lot better time riding Scott's 2005 Ski Doo Renegade 800 for a time. Amazing what nine years of technology has done between the '96 and '05.
It was cool running in to your co-worker jwilly. (another one of those small world deals) He showed us how to get up on the mountain from the parking lot. He also found my bud's tool pack on the trail much to his relief.
I won't be spending the $$ on a sled anytime soon. I'd rather have another dirtbike!
Before I made the climb Lynn warned, "be careful, there may be ice up there". I thought, ya sure, ubetcha. So I'm climbing and feeling invincible on Scott's Renegade 800 as it has plenty of power. I get near the top and decide it's time to turn around when I realize, "oh crap, I'm on a sheet of ice"! In the midst of the turn I look back at my buddies which are now the size of ants way the h*ll down there. I lightly apply the brake which does absolutely nothing to slow me down and actually begins to make the tail end come around! I'm gaining speed and realize the only thing I can do to cheat death and destruction is to steer and hang on! Gawd I felt like I was going so fast and I'll admit that I was more than a little scared. I made it out of the ice and remembered Scott telling me to give it a blip of throttle then she'll go in to a compression brake scenario. Ya, just what you want to do when you're heading downhill and holding on for dear life is give it the gas! Well, the blip worked and I live to see another day. When I got down to Lynn and Scott, I was freaked out to say the least. I then let Lynn know that indeed, there's ice up there! 8)
