As the subject states i have snapped the frame on my 04 FS 650!

Got a couple of questions:-

1. Should it get it welded? The break is by the headstock about 10mm above where the two smaller diameter pipes join to it.
2. I have sourced a frame from a 03 fx 650, will this fit?

Thanks

DON't buy the older frame! it has a different headstock angle and will change the character of your bike backwards!

if you value development over money saving you'll find another way!

please show us phots as requested.

Taffy

It can likely be welded, and even improved! Gotta see those pics. BD

link

try this it goes straight to it. BUT it's from the earlier engine bob isn't it? 600?

to read how i did the link, press "quote" and read how it's done.

Taf, You make me feel so inferior plus I still cant make a link
I dont know what the head angle is or how much modfication is needed but it IS a Husaframe :D

Re: Frame cracking.

Have not heard of it in the headstock location, but personally know of 1 04 FE650 cracking frame by RHS footpeg.

When discussing it with a 'Berg dealer as it was a warranty claim from memory it turned out that it was not an isolated incident although not common.

I would post a picture here but A, i have no idea how and B i think you need someone to "host" the pictures, which i do not have.

Not sure how i cracked the frame, i just know its cracked!

Bloody bugger too as i was really starting to enjoy the bike.

Yes that can be welded, you just need to find a good Tig welding shop. The frame is chrome-molybdenum steel and requires a particular welding rod.

Some one who knows a lot more about welding this material will have to step in here and give you more details.

Regards,

Joe

agree with joe. that is a lack of welding fromn the factory. easy weld IMHO. however if you decide, for whatever reason, NOT to weld it - please PM me as i'd be interested.

I think the way to go would be to source similar cromoly tubing with the O.D. near the same size as the frame inner diameter. Use it as a repair sleeve. 2 inches should do. Cut the frame all the way through and insert the sleeve (This may be the hard part). Drill a few small plug weld holes in the frame to hold the sleeve in place. Leave a small gap and weld the frame together solid penetrating into the sleeve.

The above is a general recommendation. I would have a certified welder do the procedure with a TIG welder as Joe described.

I've just noticed a crack in the paint in this exact location on my own bike... Damn.. Should I check more thoroughly?

I'll get a picture
