Boy, I'm having no luck this week!
Snapped my gear lever on Wednesday, got it welded-up and re-fitted, changed the oil and cleaned the air filter ready or the weekend.
Went out to the track on Sunday and one of the header pipes snapped!
Looking from the front, it's the left hand side pipe.
It's snapped about an inch and a half down from the flange which bolts to the head, clean break all the way round.
Looks quite close to the transition from the straight section onto the curve, so could be that an original weld has gone.
Thought the valves had gone and that the engine was about to blow up when it snapped as it was making a horrible noise and I feared the worst!
Was relieved to find out that it was 'only' the exhaust.
Luckily, there's an exhaust fabricator local to me who can weld titanium.
Looking to re-weld the pipe at the break and reinforce it by using a sleeve across the welded joint.
Hopefully have her together again this weekend.
Oh the joys!

On removing the header pipes, they are stamped on the back side with '501 R' and '501 L'.
I take it 'L' and 'R' denote the LHS & RHS pipes.
I think they are aftermarket items as they are titanium.
Would the original pipes have been stainless steel?
Are pipes for the 501 models the same bore as the original pipes for the 600's?
Cheers,
MadMcNish

Yes

Not sure of the answer here Ross, but a you could check the 2000 parts catalog to find out.

Hi there. I guess that it is a aftermarket pipe, if they break it´s probebly titanium.
Titanium and heat is as good as coffe and bananas. The thing that speaks for standard is the 501 L, 501 R. Then it´s S/S. The welder will know.
Good luck.

Hi.
Since we dont know what pipe you have i can just give you some info regarding the diffrent headers Husaberg used in 2000.
The OEM is stainless, and have a flange welded to the pipe which you bolt on to the cyl head.
The Aftermarket at that time, sold by Husaberg was the Arrows Titanium.
Not much titanium in those parts, we had cracks in some systems and when we should weld it we had some 100% pure titanium welding rods for our TIG welder and a shield gas to work with it.
This was a waist off good money due to the Arrows pipes are Stainless with some % off titanium, and it was not suiteble to weld with what we bought.
So, we just took normal rod for stainless and used the TIG, worked perfect
The Arrows system has a bracket bolted to the head that you attach the springs to hold the header.
The new Acrapovic systems: we never needed to weld them- they never crack.
Regards
Thomas
