I tried this a few years back and unless you change your air filters and convert to after market placed below filter it will not work. Unless I had the incorrect FC tank. The FC tank I bought used would have covered the side filter on the frame.
I know that old tank looks huge and in my opinion it is ugly as well, but it really does not hold much fuel. I think it is only 8 or 8.5 L.

i had an fc tank on an fe. i didn't use the top front mount, put a cover over the front filter hole, the seat held down the back, the radiator held down the front, i made up a tee connector for the second petcock, worked great. it only holds 0.1 gal less than the fe tank, but allows a lot better sparkplug and carb access.
