Hi all, I have now made the decision to go with using a 2007 FE650 as my rallye bike for the Australian Safari this year.

www.australiansafari.com.au

So I would like to ask you some questions regarding your advice on setting my bike up if that's ok with you.

1) what gearing should I use ? I am looking for around 170km/hr top speed. There will not be much heavy sand, but there will be a lot of fairly fast gravel/loamy tracks so at times will need a high top speed. Others have recommended 16/45 or 16/48 or lower ?

2) what jetting should I use, I will be using a full Akrapovic system, what would you recommend I start with ?? Others have recommended a 165 Main and OBEKR needle for the Akrapovic system, does this seem ok ?

3) should I put in the replacement seal kits for the water pump shaft or countershaft seal ? is it a problem if they weep a bit like many people have seen ?

4) should I use an oil cooler ? do you think it needs one ? I was planning on using one.

5) should I use a cush drive rear hub ? do you think it needs one ? I was planning on using one.

6) others have recommended checking the crank end float, I would rather not touch the motor unless it is believed absolutely necessary to ensure reliability, what do you think ?

7) have you had any issues with the gearbox shift plate or selector plate ? should I check/modify it before use ?

8) should I use use the standard cam chain or a different heavy duty one ?

9) what engine oil do you recommend ? MOTUL 300V ? what about Motorex ?

10) what front fork spring weight should I use ? and what type of springs are they, WP or other ?

11) what rear shock spring weight doshould I use ? and what type of spring is it, WP or other ?

12) should I do anything else to the suspension ?

13) will the rear sub-frame carry a 5.5 L Husaberg side tank and a 5.8 L Nomad rear fender tank ok ? should I add extra bracing ?

14) anything else you can think of that I should check or need to know ??

Thanks for any help you can give.

Cheers

If I were buying a new berg, its the first thing I would do

Given the fact its a 15 minute job to pull the stator cover and set a dial indicator up, I would definetly do it.

Although it only seems to be that batch of 05s that had their tolerances all screwed up, it will give you peace of mind.

Will be interesting to see if the later assembled engines can get it right- please post your results up.

RE: Re: Setting up a 2007 FE650 advice please !

i have an uderseat tank for sale if you are interested.

I would suggest a Chain Gang Sprocket front and rear as well as an RK XRING Chain. Loctite well various areas of the bike gear lever etc etc.

RE: Re: Setting up a 2007 FE650 advice please !

I own an 06 FE 650E the gearing stock will get you over 130 MPH stock on the street I don't know what that work's out to in KM's I think 6'th is way to tall but 1'st is fine for the slow stuff so you may end up not needing to re-gear just get a better chain. Absolutely Lock tight everything if you're going for high speed's SCOTT'S steer stabilizer is a must. My motor is as tight as can be and runs stronger than any bike I have ever riden. With the setup your thinking of you will be untouchable if you can ride half decent.Have fun if you have any Q'S [email protected]

RE: Re: RE: Re: Setting up a 2007 FE650 advice please !

130 MPH with stock gearing will have the engine turning close to 10,000 rpm. Not bad for a 650 Berg!

USE , MOTEREX 10/50 , DID VR3, NO MASTERLINK ON THIS MODEL
STEALTH ( KTM)48T SPROCKET
USE THE JETTING FOR A FS650E IT'S IN YOUR PARTS MANUAL
NOMAD REAR TANK ON THE REAR IS BEST
NIPPO DENSO IRDIUM PLUG, ENGINE ICE , MAYBE GET RID OF THE THERMOSTAT AND YOU WONT HAVE THAT HOSE RUBBING THE RADIATOR
CHECK THE VALVES AT 3HRS
WAVE ROTOR'S FOR IMPROVED STOPPING ( KTM)
I HAVE HAD TWO 650'S, 2006 : FE & FS NO PROBLEMS
LATER GEE-BEE

guys, do remember that Aus and Euro std gearing is different than our US market bikes, we are slower :)

The OBEKR needle is the needle that GEE BEE specs, and the trimetal, stealth sprockets are available through the force parts and are $ well.

My experience with Rallye bikes is you must use an oil cooler, the RFS bikes used in this years Dakar were using Joe Racer products and they make one specifically for the Husaberg,
900cc of oil. http://www.joeracerproducts.com/

Cush hubs are always a debatable subject but most Rallye bikes have cush hubs, it's cheap insurance. If the Husaberg rear wheel is the same as the RFS then a KTM 640 adv model unit will work.

If you want more info on setting up a rallye bike just let me know and I'll post the info here or via PM.

Cheers..

My 650 will go 105 MPH with the stock 15/45 gearing and wheels.

I just received my RenazcoRacing custom seat 3 days ago and it is one of the best mod's i have done to my bike. I love it! Its taller, wider in the rear and very comfy. When i slide up in to attack mode the seat kinda locks ya in to the tank for cornering and such. Then when i'm slab-in it or just cruising, ya sit back and enjoy the ride without all the stock seat discomfort.

On a rally bike ,i would think this seat would help keep your stamina up.

I got mine in black Full Suede with blue/yellow stitching. Its a work of art.

My 2 cents

I was keen till i saw the US Dollar Price tag.
I am sure they are great though. I am envious of your comfort level while riding.

I had to think long and hard about that and the thing is anything leather is expensive. For instance I'm looking at a set of leathers for street holigan supermoto racing and its about $800 to $1000 for a full set, helmet can go $400 or more and the same with boots. So the seat, custom made to your specs, including shipping is not that bad of a deal.

Ill post pic's in the morning

1) what gearing should I use ? I am looking for around 170km/hr top speed. There will not be much heavy sand, but there will be a lot of fairly fast gravel/loamy tracks so at times will need a high top speed. Others have recommended 16/45 or 16/48 or lower ?

SUGGEST THE 16/48

2) what jetting should I use, I will be using a full Akrapovic system, what would you recommend I start with ?? Others have recommended a 165 Main and OBEKR needle for the Akrapovic system, does this seem ok ?

PREFER THE EKP HOWEVER THE DIFFERENCE IS ONLY OFF-IDLE SO....

3) should I put in the replacement seal kits for the water pump shaft or countershaft seal ? is it a problem if they weep a bit like many people have seen ?

I'D LEAVE. IF GOOD FOR A FEW MILES YOU WON'T HAVE AN IMMEDIATE PROBLEM

4) should I use an oil cooler ? do you think it needs one ? I was planning on using one.

NO FOR SURE. UNLESS TESTED FULLY THEN YOU'RE ALREADY TOO LATE! ENGINE ICE, CHECK THE THROAT MOD (VIKING'S GALLERY) IN THE RAD. IT'S ALSO UNNECASSARY. BETTER TO HAVE PLENTY OF OIL IN THERE-SAY 1200CC OR SIMILAR.

5) should I use a cush drive rear hub ? do you think it needs one ? I was planning on using one.

THE GEARBOX IS BULLETPROOOF ON THEM.

6) others have recommended checking the crank end float, I would rather not touch the motor unless it is believed absolutely necessary to ensure reliability, what do you think ?

DEFINATELY BECAUSE IT'S A QUICK AND CHEAP CHECK. HOWEVER, IF OUT OF SPEC THEN IT'LL BE THE BEST MONEY YOU CAN SPEND!

7) have you had any issues with the gearbox shift plate or selector plate ? should I check/modify it before use ?

NO PROBLEMS SINCE '02 OR '03 I BELIEVE SO FORGET IT.

8) should I use use the standard cam chain or a different heavy duty one ?

STANDARD IS NOW A D.I.D. SO YOU WON'T BEAT IT OFF THE COMMECIAL SHELF.

9) what engine oil do you recommend ? MOTUL 300V ? what about Motorex ?

MOTOREX IS THE FACTORIES OIL OF CHOICE. I'D STICK WITH IT PLUS WE'VE HEARD LOTS OF GOOD THINGS ABOUT IT.

10) what front fork spring weight should I use ? and what type of springs are they, WP or other ?

11) what rear shock spring weight should I use ? and what type of spring is it, WP or other ?

12) should I do anything else to the suspension ?

DIDN'T SAEE YOUR WEIGHT OR FOR THAT MATTER WHAT YOU EXPECT THE BIKE TO WEIGH. SEEMS YOU NEED TO START WORKING OUT THE POTENTIAL WEIGHT AND WE CAN DO THE REST. HOWEVER, WITH BIG FUEL AND SAT NAV ETC I THINK 48S FRONT IS A MINIMUM AND pds4 REAR. LET US KNOW YOUR WEIGHT AND THAT OF THE BIKE.

13) will the rear sub-frame carry a 5.5 L Husaberg side tank and a 5.8 L Nomad rear fender tank ok ? should I add extra bracing ?

14) anything else you can think of that I should check or need to know ??

Thanks Wayno, glad your happy with the product!

I'm in the process of picking up my first Husaberg, a 650. Not having any ride time on these machines, taking the word of this community and those who have ridden them prompted my interest.
