Hi Guys,
My 02 -03 FE501 seems to be having stator troubles again. It is reading fine on all checks accept the red to black wire- it should be 3K ohms , it is reading 1.6Kohms - still runs fine but won't charge the battery. I'd like to try to retro fit the KTM stator into it - can you guys help me out with suggestions or a part no.
Any help is great .

Your low resistance has nothing to do with charging the battery but I am surprised it is still running with a resistance as low as that. Regarding your charging you will probably find it is a bad connection or a faulty regulator rectifier, never seen a bad SEM stator on the charging side.
The KTM replacement will only work on pre 99 models there isn't a replacement from 99 to 03, that is why I rewind a lot of stator for the year 99 to 03.

Thanks Sparks, So tell me then ,is the red and black wire for the ignition circiut ? the bike runs perfect , starts first or second kick - even after sitting for a couple of weeks at a time. Maybe the spark is not strong enough to fire the engine when E-starting if this is the case - but performance wise it is running at 100% , I have access to another of the same model with new stator etc, in a side by side drag race there is no difference. This other bike belongs to a friend and it starts off the E-start first time every time - even cold. I have just fitted a new Yuasa YTZ7s battery and fully charged with the engine warm it will not fire up - the starter motor is rebuilt too - It is nearly to the point where I am starting to reconsider my choice of colours - I am going to go through the whole electrical system once more - but if you really think that the stator may be the problem - I'm happy to buy another - it just has to E-Start ! ! !

If the red and between the black cable 1.6kOhm is, maybe then that one from among the four coils is short-circuit. :?
The SEM ignition is rev pendant.
If you kick the engine, the turn of the crankshaft is bigger because of the transmissions.
The spark comes much easily on a bigger rev onto existence.
If you use the restarter, then smaller the rev of the engine, the ignition produces little tenseness in this manner, and the wrong unit will not give a spark.

It happened to me, I tackled it because of this and rewinded the stator.

Hi boris,

If you have 1.6K between Red and Black then you have defiantly got shorted turns this is usually brought on by the original windings having a poor quality enameled wire.
There is one thing certain one day it is going to stop and you can guarantee it won't be at the end of your street.
I will guarantee you that one of my rewound stators will e-start your engine hot or cold providing the jetting is correct, this is because my rewound stators have a lower spark threshold than the originals.
