I just seized a 2001 Fe 400 after a lower hose fell off. Bike has about 80 hours on it and I paid 2K for it. This bike is in perfect condition other than this. The bike was shut off prior to seizing and it was easy to break the piston free, the sleeve has a small score mark. Parts are around 1200 (Sleeve and piston etc). Does anyone know aftermarket parts dealer, US chrome was not sure that they can rebore and replate this sleeve. I have a 2009 ktm xcw so this is my spare bike and I really do not want to double its price at this time. Is there any market to just part this bike out? Thanks for any guidance.

woh!!!! steady!! steadyyyyyy!!!

how about saying hello? you want a favour - for us to save your arse (although i suspect in your case it's your ***) yet you come on here like phuckin paratrooper looking for the sh%$house?

so where you from?

how does a lower hose 'fall off'?

is that sleeve scraped out or is it a mark? when the nikasil is gone it makes a 1mm deep trench. to have them re-niksalised is £122 over here in the UK. a piston is about £115. headgasket £20. you need the three 'O' rings on the linar and maybe a few other items at the same time.

there are no aftermarket parts out there for this. all linars are dodgy so trust your own.

see if you can't word things a little sweeter mate.

You are sure it siezed??
These bikes tend to hold up well to overheating. In fact the lower hose coming off was quite common. After the first time most guys will modify the nipple on the waterpump cover top give it more of a lip either by welding or using JB Weld.
If you didnt ride it untill it was glowing red, it may be alright. Light scoring/marking in the nicasil is a normal, so you mightv want to take a closer look at it or get a secong opinion.

Seized bike

Hey all, sorry to be so blunt and straight forward..really no offense intended, just my personality. I am in the Washington state in the Northwest of the USA. Trail rider. Husaberg just became the bike I let friends ride, about 5 hours into a technical single track ride that involved my friend dropping the bike about 8 times, tree crossings etc, I loop back to find him with the bike. He shut it off when it was making a, "grinding noise".

We have taken it apart and it was seized, the sleeve is scored and the piston is toast. Added fun includes the counterbalancer bearing is in pieces and the counter balancer shaft rotates with resistance.

It looks like when it comes to this bike my *** may be beyond saving.

RE: Seized bike

it's the balancer that did it. the bits of metal went all over the bore probably starting many hours ago. go to twin balancer bearings instead of one. look closely at the teeth meshing between the balancer and the intermediate shaft. the teeth are often toast. in which case go to an engine less the balancer completely to save money. just use a spacer or the inner races of the old bearings.

...............if you want to keep the counterbalancer use the appropriate updated part number as the 01 - early 02 counterbalancers were a source of engine failure.........

Counterbalancer Update for 2001 and early 2002 models
The single bearing counterbalancer was replaced with a double bearing counterbalancer in late 2002. Counterbalancer failures were experienced on some 650's and a lesser amount of smaller displacement engines. A counterbalancer assembly is available to upgrade to the double bearing version. Included are: Counterbalancer, bearings, circlip and shim. The 2003 counterbalancer cannot be used, as teeth on the counterbalancer sprocket have a different mesh.

470/501/550/650-2001 use update part # 201 257-01
470/501/550/650-2002 use update part # 210 243-01
