Just got it today

7.5 Hours on it and 140 miles.

Now I need all the help I can get as far as what else to buy (maintenance -wise)

Got extra Oil filters
Battery Charger
Extra Air Filter

So what next? Air filter cleaner ?, something to grease the cables with ? something for the chain ? ...

It has been years since I had my last bike and I can't really remember everything I used back then.Name of the products you use will be highly appreciated.

Maybe a small list of "got to have" might help other new riders. if you guy can also give out some advices as far as preventing punctures (replace tube with heavy duty one??) that will be awesome

been more then 6 years since the last time I rode - I MISSED IT SO MUCH!!!

Welcome to the site,

Great bike!

Here's a list of stuff for maintenance that in IMHO will make life good for you and your bike:

Motion Pro valve adjuster tool.
Z shaped feeler gauge. .004" and .005"
Keep the valves adjusted, they should have been checked at 3 hours. Your bike is about half way on it's break in period. After break in about every 25-30 hours for valve check.
I am a big fan of No toil air filters, oil, and cleaners. Clean your filters in the sink.
Bridgestone heavy duty tubes.
Slime in the tubes.
Good off road tires, I run Pirrelli's replacement for the MT 18 HD.
Motul 15W-50 motor oil. Change frequently, it shouldn't come out black.
Scott's stainless oil filter.
I use Maxima chain wax on my O ring chain.

Make sure that you get the chain tension right, no too tight here.

Other than that just check the nuts and bolts for tightness and proper torque.

Hey Dale

Thanks for a great answer

I will keep in mind all that you wrote

few quick questions:

1. The sales guy at the dealership told me the bike was already broke in. he said something like that since this was a factory demo they broke it in at the factory before letting people test it.does that sound right?

2.he told me to use 10-40 oil, but then again I am in Texas.

3.I found this Manual http://husaberg.com/fileadmin/user_uplo ... _OM_05.pdf on Husaberg's website but it is for 06-07 models. I guess that it also fit the 08 models since no big changes were made - Am I right?

Thanks again!

Mati

Hey mati,

What displacement is th bike can't quite see from the pic's.

Do know about the factory break in thing, first I have heard of it. Maybe Fryguy can chime in here or one of the dealers. I thought the demo bikes were just new bikes that were used as demo's.

I'm pretty sure the 05-07 service manual willl be accurate. I thought the only change for 08 was the "red sticker jetting" also know as closed course jetting, read better than green sticker, the standard akro muffler (way cool), and on the 550 an increase of the web thickness in the main bearing area. And perhaps some suspension changes.

The 10W-40 oil should be fine just use a good quality oil and change it often.

Get a good note pad to keep the history in with reciepts etc. makes a BIG difference when you come to sell it.

Also use the note book to write down all the tools you use i.e spanner sizes, cross head or flat screwdriver, plug spanner size, allen size etc. This will allow you to put together an 'on the trail' kit very quickly. I actually buy a complete set of 'trail' tools for each bike. They never get used in the workshop or on another bike, that way I know when I pick up that set on the way out for a ride everything will be there and will fit. It really costs very little and certainly less then a ruined day out on the trail.
Buy a spare front tube and fender bag to carry it, you can use the front as a rear as well. Get tyre levers and learn how to use them , before you really need to..:).

Get out and ride it...:)

Thanks guys... Keep it comming !!!

I can't wait to get out and ride - I'm still recovering from a small Appendix surgery I had but should be good to go by next weekend.

I will try to summarize everything on a spreadsheet and maybe post it here for future new-riders.

Thanks a lot again.

Any chance you could share what does that tool kit contains so I could try and build one for my self as well?

Thanks

everywhere except the seat and tires.

Can I use it after washing the bike to lubricate the cables and the kick starter ?

Another question - I read somewhere that you are not supposed to change the oil for the first 10 hours but couldn't find anything about it in the manual - is it true? or can I change it now (8.5 hours)

Thanks

Mati

P.s

Rode it for the first time yesterday - lot's of fun
