Can anyone tell me the recommended hours/miles to run in my 08 450. I have been told 3 hours, i have done this but only done 75 miles but this doesn`t seem enough also is it recommended to use fully synthetic oil after dropping running in oil. At what hours/miles do you recommend doing first valve clearance check ?
Cheers Bergman.

I've been told by the dealer the first 4 hours for the first valve check. The recommended oil that I use is the Motorex Power synt 4T 10w 50.

Cheers pollo,
Would you recommend using fully synthetic (i used putoline off road 4 + in my 04 450) or semi synthetic after the first 4 hours.
Bergman.

I think Husaberg specifies fully synth actually. :)

Mine (new 08 fe450) has been running from start on fully synth, and I've done oil changes @5 hours, the first valve check at 4 hours, the second at 10 (hadn't moved at all), and I'm planning to leave the valves until I hit 30. :)

It's at 19.6 hours now, feels sweet as a nut.

After how many hours did you drop the running in oil ? (been told that this is mineral oil, is this correct ? )
Bergman

Ummm...I've forgotten, I think I ran the engine one hour with the supplied oil, varied loads and revs (enduro trail), new filter and swapped to full synth 10-40, swapped again at 5 hours, and I've kept the 5 hour interval, with a new filter every other time. :)

It's most likely overkill, but I like to keep things in check, better catch something early on the magnet, than discover it when it goes boom. :)

Did another oil change and a new filter today, just passed 20 hours on the counter, and it gets sweeter and sweeter, I love this bike. :D

I dumped the oil supplied in the FS650 when I got it before I started the bike. Put mineral oil in & did 200kms slowly stretching out the revs to 3/4 throttle. Did 15min sessions & let the bike cool completely between rides. I've dumped the oil now & put Lineweavers favourite oil, DELO 400 in it & will change after every 5 hours. DELO400 is about $4 p/ltr here so makes good sense as it doesn't cost me a fortune & I can change as often as I like. I don't believe that the rings seat properly with the synthetic oil after a few mates complained of oil consumption after rebuilds running in on Synthetic. Just me 2bob's worth.

Think i`ll run mineral oil for 5hours, drop oil, check valves, run semi-synth for a further 5hours, check valves again, then run fully-synth.Anybody had any problems running fully-synth so early in a motors life ?

I dumped whatever was in my once new 650 after 5-10 mins and put in straight mineral. 3 20 minute heating and cooling cycles, using short bursts of 3/4 throtle from about 1/2 revs to help seat rings. Change mineral at 1, 3 and 5 hours and Delo 400 @ +/- 5 hrs since. Negligble oil consumption between changes. Just got 3 20 l drums @ $77 each so its the best value for the money on the market IMHO and well proven for over 400 hours in my 501.

Rings seat *very* quickly in an engine, it takes a few minutes, if it's using oil there's something wrong - this is coming from a very competent engine builder that I've used before on big hp car engines.

Modern engines are more or less delivered ready..
