Too Fast
I want a 400 but am sticking with my 501
Any ideas on taming the beast ....particularly bottom end ?
Dellorto, PJ 52. DR 270. K35 (clip 3). MJ 175
Gearing 13. 47.

you won't believe this but get a keihin!

the dell orto is viscious off a closed throttle and knackers you when you're tired. you could try retarding the ignition 3 or so degrees, you could put a larger pilot jet in but the best thing of all would be to put a /50 cutaway slide in it. this slows the signal off the closed and 1/16th-1/8th open throttle.

if you go for the /50 cutaway you need the next size up pilot anyway as the signal strength to the pilot jet is reduced and the fuel has to come up in fat lumps instead of a fast stream.

i gaurantee there is someone here who would also swop your '55' cam for their '01' cam from their 400. the '01' is a milder cam than yours.

just change the gearing , go 14- 47

it will remove the '' snap '' off the bottom , just what you want .

there were several people using the g2 throttle cam at moab and those i spoke to had nothing but praise for it.

Hmmm
That G2 throttle looks interesting !
I had a long ride today and thought 'how come i'm doing 60 MPH and my throttle is barely open?'
So i took a ride on my mates 400 ( an orange thing !? ) and when i rode that at 60 MPH the throttle was half way !
Hmmmmm
Thats my verdict !

That is the same thing I have with my 600 - the only choice from idle is Zooom. Lots of fun on fire trails and clean uphill tracks (in 2nd or 3rd with front wheel lifting) and I end up miles ahead of my non husaberg riding companions. Problem is you can't tame the beast as power plant is there when you open the throttle from virtually any speed / throttle position. The main concern I have is in the tight stuff as the wheelspin throws you in to ruts etc. while the yammies chug up the hill. I did look at throttle cam and fitting a Keihin but it is a great bike the way it is just not going to suit all riding conditions - the "snap" is something these others bikes sadly don't have. Changing to a new rear tyre without worn knobbies has also made a big difference in traction, stability from forward motion etc.

When I go out with them and ride to the speed they go I get into more trouble than going in front at a pace the bike likes. Bear in mind that means that I am flying through trails at a speed that I would not want to come off at - racing speed not "with mates enjoying the scenery speed". I end up waiting for a while at the end of a section and they come along wondering if I made it around every corner.

Im with ya all the way Aussieforce, but sadly i'm usually the one second from the back.
Ten years ago - Yes ... I went for it and was fast.
Since breaking by back, snapping my ankle and wrist and starting a family, my competetive streak has gone.
Nowadays my 501 barely gets a good fast run.
But i'm currently re-jetting my carb and intersted in this g2 throttle - Maybe i can gat my confidence back !?

Ady - I don;t want to ride at those speeds all the time and it is more a case of the bike handling better with more momentum and not the competitive nature driving me. Through a stupid mestake I came off it a beauty when I got it and was in hospital and that was my worst injury to date. Took me 6 months to get knee back close to normal and a while to get confident again. I would suggest you get the cam so you can in theory apply the power with more control and get your confidence back. I believe the bergs are a lot more snappier than most bikes so mods are needed if you want to tame them a bit. The dealer seems to wonder why I want to do the same as you but they don't seem to understand we are not racing and we are also riding with friends with other types of bikes and in some real tight stuff and steep hills etc etc.

I would look at a different cam profile so soften the abruptness of the power. I bet Dale has a recommendation for you.

i second that suggestion.
even 15 / 47 would be a huge improvement

i must liuve in a mountainous region! i keep getting this echo....

Try a different Cam profile cam profile Cam profile Cam profile Cam profile.

I also concur that a 14 or 15 front sprocket will help tame it down, and the G2 Throttle Kit will top it off. Easy fixes that will yield good results.

And Taffy's other stuff'l work too.

Put longer pull throttle cam to slow or delay the gas flow. Try that first. Then go from there.
Good luck

is that it?

"one dinaro for my bloody life story!"

"penny for an ex-leper?"

Taffy

OK ..
Thanks very much Taffy for your excellent contribution as always.
I will of course let you know how i get on.
