Hi all.
Wasn't able to find anything on replacing the auto decomp procedure so I have a question about doing it with out breaking the timing chain in my 2003 400.
I have an IWIS timing chain that's riveted, the chances of finding a split link around here are Nil and it seems in excellent condition. So I was wondering if it's possible to just release the tension and pull the bearing off the cam and replace the decomp that way. I have ordered a new one with the modded spring from Taffy.
Also does anyone have any tips on ignition timing and maybe jetting for running in super cold weather? I'm looking to get this beast out for some ice riding this winter.
Thx.

Hi

I have used the IWIS with a split link, so turn the engine and check if you have one also.

I'm not sure but I think you can take the camshaft without breaking the chain ?? just turning the camshaft to the sprocket side

The worst the chain is the better
:D

removing the tensioner blade. removing the end bearing, removing thwe two screws into the sprocket and a lot of wiggling later....voila!!!

Hi Husanoob,
do it like Taffy said. Do not underestimate the "wiggling" part - Husaberg cam chains are usually pretty tight fits - not like Yamaha WR ones. If you have no split link the excercise is still not that difficult.

You'll need a chain split/rivet tool and a rivet link, example:
  • Rivet Link for 2003 Husabergs (KTM part no.: 80036013050) is about 8€/$10
  • MotionPro Chain Breaker & Rivetting Tool #08-0058 is about $90

Maybe you should consider to exchange your cam chain too...
Maybe you can find a cheaper or better chain rivetting tool - but it does the job.

Sweet. Wiggle Wiggle.

Cool thx guys. If I can get my hands on the KTM equivalent link I'll probably just break the chain for ease of use and future use. Other wise I'll release the tension and get a wiggling as soon as I get the new Auto decomp.
Cheers.
