I am trying to change fork oil wt. but cannot see how to remove the cap from the cartridge to remove the spring. Fork legs are off the bike. The caps have adjustable preload (pin spanner holes). This is on an 05 FS650E. Any help is appreciated.

adjustable angle grinder pin spanner

or make one out of some steel and use nails for pins

or just unwind the preload nut t it tops out then keep going

Copy that bushmechanic. I have a pin spanner but what is keeping the cartridge from turning? Flats hidden by the spring?
The spring seems to be under a fair amount of preload with factory(?) plastic spacers under the caps. Another question on that... Since I have an adjustable fork cap, should I remove spacers to the allow only external adjustment at the cap?

ahh I read it proper this time

there is a nut 22mm on the top of the spring guide

looks like this with springs off

Classic Bushie :D
I noticed the photos were getting cut off on the right when posting my Map Switch.
How long you been playing with Husaberg suspension? It's amazing what you know.

Thanks bushmech. My MAC wrenches are too fat to get on the nut so I'll have to hunt one up.

What about the preload spacer question above? Any help is appreciated.

the DOC page linked explains how to measure the preload

sometimes the springs are different lengths, you can remove the spacers if you like but its good to have at least one in there or the spring might wear out the aluminium.

with stock rebound stack you will need some preload to stop packing on little bumps
