hi
does anyone know if the 3 phase reg/rectifier needs a load on to show any voltage on the output.have got a 2003 fs650 with battery and starter removed.im trying to get the lights working and have the following voltages
stator yellow /blue 15 volts idlig rising with revs
red out of rec/reg 0.6 volts at idling and with revs
some where in one of the other threads it says i need a load but an auto electrician friend says i dont.not bothered about buying new one as long as i know its faulty
thanks

fwiw, the 15v you are seeing is ac, and the output of the r/r is dc. reading it on ac will provide a very low reading.

I found the same, you need a load on there to get a voltage reading that makes sense. I was finding that the open circuit voltage was decreasing with revs.

when you say load will the lights be enough as thats all ive got with the battery and starter removed

lights are a good load.a battery is not much load but is good for stable output.and starter is not a load(unless you push the button and even if you had it you wouldn't be using it during your rectifier test I suppose).if you don't have a battery you get kinda unstable output at idle.turn on your lights and measure the output of your reg.
