Hello,
I have had my suspension done professionally in the past
After taking my fork caps off my 650 to change oil I noticed that the caps were bottomed out correctly onto the spindle of the Hydraulic stop but then the stop was brought up to the cap and tightened instead of continuing
to tighten down the cap.
So there are less threads inside the cap and therefore the rebound piston would be lower inside the screw sleeve, (bottoming cone) . So even though it would be only about 3/4 of an inch lower it would still increase the volume
of the chamber above the piston.
(My other 650 had the cap all the way down onto the stop.)
My question is what affect if any does this have.
The forks also had only 90mm air gap and although they were fine on large hits were a little firm overall
and only got within 2 inches of bottoming. The clickers good at 18C 17R. Fork springs 44kg.
So I changed the oil, set the height at 110mm. ( I believe the DOC says 115 minimum)
Screwed the cap down on spindle then all the way down to tighten.
This time I ended up at 19C and 16R. Better than before. A little soft on high speed hits but preffered overall for fireroads and single track I ride. I am getting within 1 1/4 from bottoming with 19C and it feels real good there using more suspension. Slowing the rebound a click to 16 also helped keep the front lower and turns good there.
Fork height has been raised as before at 2nd scribe. Sag set with Factory Connection serviced shock at 105mm.
Spring is 8.1/9.9 progressive.
