I'm doing a trip down through Portugal later this year, three Berg 450's on the trip.
Most of the trip will be dirt tracks, forest trails, river crossings and graded gravel roads.
We want to carry very little so we're looking at doing the following:

Running mousses front and rear
One bike with a Boss tank
Wolfman tank bags
Bar bag
Enduro bag on the back
Rucksac and bumbag (with hydration packs)
Spare fuel and water in MSR bottles

We'll share a toolkit and First Aid across the bikes

I'm looking at fitting a very lightweight rear rack of some sort to allow me to use Andy Strapz panniers ( http://www.andystrapz.com/expedition_panniers.htm ).
Has anyone on here put a rack on yet and if so do you have picutres?
I see the only issue being keeping the weight from pushing the plastic sidepanel onto the exhaust.

Ahd before anyone states the bleeding obvious, yes we could do it on our BMW's and KTM640's but wheres the challange in that...:)

These are interesting but would need to be adapted to fit a Berg.

i use tourmaster cortech bags and tailbag and a bergdaddy rack ( i'm told he hasn't made any for awhile, but there are some out there). the problem isn't keeping them off the pipe but keeping them from flopping upwards when you are in the rough stuff. i solved that by bending 2 pieces of aluminum rod that i can strap the lower part of the bag to. the one on the right side clamps to the subframe behind the number plate and then clamps to the plate stay tab. the left side clamps to the subframe in front and under the silencer in back. works good.

I have a bergdaddy rack as well. Works very well. I changed mine so that is bolts to the blinker stub on the sub frame.

Fe650 Bags

Here's my 08 Fe650 I will be taking cross country and i think these bags will do nicely. It has my boss tank, rad guards, skid plate, avon tires, windscreen and of course cruise control. Oh yeah, and a oil cooler will be installed today. Decided to go 17/42 for cruising speed, dual tachometers , water temperature for cockpit entertainment. I had a buddy fab the bag mounts and the rest i dreamt about.

HR, i have put a simple hour meter with tach from hard line, also a trailtech vapor
just to do tach & water temp for things to look at during the boring ride down I84
for 742mi to salt lake then 440 mi to vegas through furnace ally! The stock digital
speedo will be used for the rest of info!

Hawaii Rider,
Gung Ho ! and Hoorah ! (raised by a Marine Sgt.) There are NO ex Marines only those "Not On Active Duty". Katie Couric was in Iraq talking to a Marine Corps sniper and asked him " What do you feel when you shoot some body ?" the Marine pondered a moment and said "recoil"

Rick
Genious using the acerbis mounts for the rack. I wanted to do the Trans AM trail on my berg and now maybe Ill rebuild it and try that next year. My 05 550 has been flawless and less maintenance than any other bike I have oned. Cheaper also if I look at miles total and $$ spent.
As a plus after passing 525 riders they ask WTF kind of DRZ is that. Guess i should get some BNG to put on my BOSS tank.

Rick,
I love your your idea of a proper dual sport. The tank graphics make the big tank look better as well. looking forward to details of your trip.

What did you come up with for an oil cooler?

:D Thanks breatheren for the feedback, not finished yet but very close.

I tryed to get a cooler from ben ballard (jbs racing) e-mailed each other several times

& he would not deliver the good's very dissapointed with that whole deal. So I am using

the joe racer cooler for just the road section of trip, very nice stuff!! More photos

for everyone coming soon!
