I was hoping someone could help me. I am having trouble removing rear axle and brake side adjusting sledge on my 2001 fx650. Since there is no head on axle end how do you persuade axle to slide out if it has not been removed and may be gummed up.I sprayed penetrant but no luck so far. Any advise appreciated.

wooley

you need a collared pin. snap on do sets with three sizes of shaft. one of the shafts is the perfect size because it fits down the hollow centre and the shoulder sits on the o/d.

you also need a big hammer and i suggest a copper head, also, you need to isolate the impact by supporting the swingarm against some wood on the floor as close to the shaft as possible.

lots of WD and then GIVE IT SOME!

Hi wooley,

Before you reassemble it, clean up the shaft, and grease it with boat trailer wheel bearing grease, then it won't seize up next time.
