After talks with a few fellow Rallye riders I have been considering a Beta 525rr for a future rallye bike. I've seen a few heavily discounted new 2007 bikes.
Has anyone experience of this bike? Have you seen any race? A few people haven't been convinced of the new KTM 530 and If I get a new Husaberg it would have to be a 2009 model (which I'm really hoping can take fuel in the sub frame), but they are real expensive 'cause the are shiny and new! The Beta has the KTM 525 engine which is proven and I could gaurentee parts availiability.
I would keep my 2005 FE550e rather than get a 2008 Husaberg, but I'm not sure I'd trust it for a Rallye. What do you guys think?

the 550 would be a worry unless you had the motor totally overhauled by someone who is really really good at Berg motors, even then its not as good as the 650 motor for rallye events.

Here in Australia at least the 525 motors do have main bearing failures in rallye events by about days 4 to 6, not a big % of bikes but enough...If I was using one I would start the event with a brand new motor with no more then 2oo km on it.

I know the '07-'08 650 motor will do a 9 day rallye event with no issues, its a great motor with almost perfect power / torque characteristics for rallye events

The new 570 is an unkown re the motor lasting in a rallye but the rideability of the new '09s has me totally sold, the motor has many 530 parts in it but also some key differences beside layout.

In a rallye where preserving the rider is as important as preserving the motor I reckon the effortless rideability and unreal handling of the '09s etc will allow an average rider place much higher in the finishing results due to being fresher for longer

I certainly hope to find out if this theory is true :toothy7:

Hi Gazza,
Interesting evalution, please inform me of the typical Australian Rallye speed v distance per race day, I'm assuming that these advents must be pretty brutal high speed, Baja 1000, Las Vegas-Reno like ?
I am divided over buying 08 FE650 v 09 FE570, fuel tank is the issue for me, when Safari might have something + availbility due to initial demand ?

Sean

Aus Safari is 7 to 9 days long with each day between 600 - 850 km long of which about 60-70% is competitative selectives, speed range is 50 - 170 kph, most is 80 - 130kph. the 650 lopes along in its mid range all day and pulls like a train no issues

we should have tanks for the '09 for sale by Feb '09, the target is total bike fuel capacity of 22-23 L
