Reporting an observation:

Today I rode single track today in weather 31 degrees celcius - all 1st and 2nd gear riding - bog holes, riding the clutch alot etc etc - this is what the bike is meant for - right. Coolant level fine, I have the fan kit AND petrol tank heat shield and B&B exhaust header shield - was wearing Klim Mojave riding pants.

After 3.5 hrs riding (fan mostly on), the bike got SO hot that my right knee also got so hot from radiant heat, that I could not bear to touch the bike with the r\h knee. The l\h knee was fine.

Lucky it was the end of the ride. Will header wrap make a big difference here?

Regards
fizz

it is surprising how much heat you get off that RHS. on the up side in the snow its handy for keeping warm as you ride along :D

How about a new approach?? I just coated that section of pipe inside and out. The pipe goes on a 2010 fe390
The coating is ceramic based. This is a first step, and testing it is next!!
I have other coatings planed. The other pieces of the exaust, the radiator,(yes, there is a coating that will help disipate heat from a radiator) the piston skirt, the piston dome,(skirt and dome are different coatings) and the engine caseings.
I am trying to combat the heat issue with these 4-strokes.
I will keep you all up to date on any sucess or failure during this process.

Used ceramic coating inside and out on the header pipe of my 650 XCH with good results in heat drop plus easy cleaning of caked mud and dirt off of the header.

Will do the Berg pipe soon as well.

Did you coat the entire pipe inside and out? Also, did you coat the outside of the muffler as well?
And did you use a high heat ceramic coating? I have an intrest in a coatings company, and I am trying to combat the heat issues on these big four strokes.
If I am successful, I believe I can offer these different coatings at a good price.
Thank you for your feed back.

Yes, fully coated inside and out.

Also, did you coat the outside of the muffler as well?
No, didn't do the muffler as it is huge on the X-CH and has a cat inside it. The company suggested doing it though, if the header pipe didn't drop the temp enough.

And did you use a high heat ceramic coating?
Yes, a high heat ceramic coating and also the hardest as used on speedway cars and bikes. Will be looking at doing the 390 as well in the near future once the company catches up after Christmas and the floods. Would also have the heat shields coated as well

The ceramic coating has dropped the temperature around the engine and left leg area and also the muffler where it joins onto the header pipe.
If I am successful, I believe I can offer these different coatings at a good price.

some more pics.
