hi all,

is someone known the price of a new stator ignition SEM on my 400fe( year97)?

there is a used one from a '99 on ebay right now!

regards

Taffy

joe is correct, a 99 will not fit on a 1997,and to buy a used stator is like buying used underwear.a new stator is $215.00.the stator/flywheel assy is $369.00.dan.

I believe the '97 mounts from the engine case behind the flywheel while the '99 mounts from flywheel cover into the flywheel, but can the same winding part of the stator be used between models if the mount plates are swapped over?

Dan is probably right - your call on using a 2nd hand stator. I reckon buying it would be risky but then if it was REAL cheap......

I think you are correct BundyBear. I believe the same stator will work from 97 (or before) through 2003.

i do have some used stator around here real cheap if anyone would like to buy them.the downside is they dont work!dan.

Cheap used stators for sale here too :)

I will sell my cheap used (non-working) stators cheaper than Dan will.
But I draw the line at selling used underwear :)

It seems that they sell only the stator for the old models. Why I do not know but to the later models you must buy the flywheel as well. However, count with around 200 EUR.

I have a spare stator for a 99 FC. I bought it off E- Bay; it will no fit my 02 FX. This stator has no lighting coil on it. I'll take $30 us plus shipping.

FC means Cross, so it´s normal that this kind of stator has no coils for electrics.
You can use it when you also take the FC rotor. It´s necessary to use it too, otherwise you ´ll have no function.

It could be that you can use a 1999 or newer stator in old models, but surely the other way round, it won´t work. The so calles "dynamic force control", the new digital ignition needs some more functions in the stator. So old stators do not work in new engine models.

I have also a bad stator and I find a man here in Portugal who repair them. He assure that the stator will be 100% OK. Probably better than from factory. I have sent mine to him and wait. When it arrives I can inform you if it really works fine.
On the other hand you also have a sator from KTM (580.31.002.050) which cost 240,00 € new and the KTM importer has informed me that peolpe use to by them to fit on the Bergs.

António :) :)

husby,
how mutch does it cost the repair of the stator in portugal.

For information, the old importer in france had it on spare and he sold to me 80€. It seem that a new one cost 160€.

sem cost

you are right jean yves about the price, i paid 150 euros for my sem when i rebuilt my engine and another 150 euros for the flywheel.

as for the 99 sem ignition:

i once measured my sem (95 fe600) using a digital multimeter + a osciloscope for the voltage measurements.

i came up with values exactly the same with these ones

models 99 and on seem to have different windings, because resistance and voltage values are much different from earlier ones (take a look at the hard starting guide to compare resistance measurements)

so, a 99' and on sem fitted on an earlier model might or might not work.
it also might cause problems to the printed circuit of the ignition coil.

who knows :?:

Thanks heaps for the info Oyk. I did not know whether or not the exchange would have worked, and from what you say they will not.

Hi BundyBear,
It is possible, however, in my opinion not worth the trouble as one must
reposition the flywheel in relationship to the crankshaft.

Stator

Jean,

The man here in Portugal make it for 60€, you have to pay the mail charges.
He also inform me that can supply a device to connect to the stator to prevent the future failures.

That would depend on the cause of the failure in the first place. It is likely that most of the dead stators fail mechanically, not due to electrical overloading. If this is so then the only thing you could put between the stator & CDI to prevent these would be an open circuit.

Husby, it will be good to hear about the stator once you have it back. Perhaps you can determine what he did to it? It would be nice to have one done as a spare. Thank you for the post. BD
