Hi ppl

At the moment I am a fence sitter, that is, I have yet to decide what my new bike is going to be.

I have just recently sold my 06 Husqvarna TE450 and I am now ready to purchase either:

1. 09 Husky TE510
2. 09 Hussy FE570

I have never owned a Hussy before and don't know a great deal about them apart from the link to KTM, but every new magazine article I read on the FE450 & 570 gets me excited.

The bike screams for attention, and all reports are good, but what is the bike like in the real world in riders hands ? I know there is a plethora of information on this forum, and yes, I am slowly looking through them all (time permitting), but I thought I would post this and see what happens.

Some of my questions: (because I haven't seen the bike in the flesh yet)

That Cross-linked polyethylene subframe, does it look like it will last the distance and not break ?
What are the transmission ratios ?
I'm 6'2" would I need bar raisers or can this be altered to suit with the bars on there ?
Overall build quality, is it good ?
I read somewhere that Hussy had a bad rap for a while, why is that ? Parts ? Realability ? Servicing ?

Are these bikes as good as they say they are ? How do they compare with the 09 TE510 ?

Lot's of questions I know, but I would be grateful for any response to help with my choice.

Cheers from eyspy

It'll last longer than the ally ones that crack on most bikes !!!

What are the transmission ratios ?
On my 570 I run 14/50 good for 0 to 100mph

I'm 6'4". The old berg needed rise and fwd. This one one is real comfy set with clamp fwd holes fwd.

Better than good. Watch foir the trick with removing the subframe though.

1. SEM ingition - Gone 2003.
2. De'Orto Carby- Gone 2003
3. Build quality on some of the early models was not that great as they punched out really small numbers of bikes - Resolved as Bikes are built at KTM factory now
Reliability ? Same as any bike. Maintain it and it'll last for ever. This is a Hi Po bike so don't expect 10000km between oil changes. More like 500 as per your husky.
The bike is easier to service than most as the europeans seem to think about these things at design time more so than the japs. Never forget my 200 wr400, had to remove header to change oil filter DOH!. The 2001 - 2008 bergs were the easiest bikes to service of any I had or knew of.

No they are not as good. They are better. Words don't do them justice. If you buy a 510 you'll always watch a 570 go past and regret your purchase

The TE is a good bike, but it has not changed much in 10 years - apart from the EFI and the stupid move to a narrower range box. Expect 85km out of the 510 before you have to push, expect 120km out of the Berg

Lot's of questions I know, but I would be grateful for any response to help with my choice.

Lots of answers - enjoy

RE: Re: Potential Husaberg owner

just buy a berg mate i have recently converted over from jappers and when i bought mine i was tossin up between it (an 04 fe550) and a new ktm 530 my old man bought a spanker 09 530 all the fruit added it was 17k (aus dollars)i got my o4 berg and still smash him hahahaha and i paid 5k, i always paid out on the bergs particularly my old boss had one tht wouldnt start, NOW I LOVE EM!! could ask for a better thing! only wish i could justify the money for a new bush toy!

RE: Re: Potential Husaberg owner

Mate, I've just gone from an 08 Husky TE 450 to a 09 FE 450, the Husky was a great bike and still is in 09, but this new Burg is just the ducks guts!

RE: Re: Potential Husaberg owner

iv got the 450 09,did have 200 exc all the time so bought the berg as its the neareast thing to 2st..very smooth in all areas & lovely to ride...sounds like the 570 mite be better one for u tho

Thanks for the input, it all helps. At this stage I am 95% sure I will get the Berg over the Husky. Just waiting for my land sale to go through to free up some $$$ then I'll slap some cash on the counter and wheelie away from there. :D :D

One more question:

The optional mapping switch. How much is it and is it worth it ?

The mapping switch is only $90, so at that price I would probaly get one.

How good are the standard bash plates that come with these bikes ? Will they offer reasonable protection rather than fitting after market ones ?

Just found out that the ONLY dealer in SA (Caldacott Motors in Keith) did not order any bikes. WTF !!!!
Now the next closest dealer is Bendigo dirt bikes in Victoria, some 750 kms from my house 8O

I have no problems driving that far ( i went to Sydney for my CRF450X, to Melbourne for my TE450), but the only problem is servicing.
I do all my own oil, filters ETC.... but the big stuff I leave to the dealers. Are these bikes that radically different that the bike has to be sent to a Berg trained dealer ? or will any good MC mechanic be able to do the job ? (can't see myself traveling 1500 km round trip to get work done)
They are supposed to be related to KTM, so would a good KTM dealer be equipped to do the job ? If so I can have a small 2 hour drive to Adelaide at Kessner Suzuki & KTM for servicing. :?: :?: :?: :?:

eyspy,

You will be in fine hands with your local ktm dealer for big stuff , But you might never see
them.

That's good to hear, I did not think it would be a problem :)

Just been surfing the Berg forums and noted on more than one occasion ppl have commented that the 570 likes to slide out a bit on the back end.

Is this a problem ? or is it just good useable stuff ? I have no dramas sliding out when I want it to, but not a constant thing where you have to have a feather touch on the throttle.

eyspy the bike is magic!! The open class model showes a larger gap of advantage in
cc size due to this awesome new design. You will ride with confidence!
