I am considering parting out my 03 Fe400e, as I doubt I'll have the money to rebuild the engine anytime soon. If anyone has a need for something, let me know. If there is enough interest, I'll start disassembling. The engine ate a cam bearing, I have not dug too deeply to see what further damage may have occurred, but I didn't find any of the balls on top of the head. It would still kick over.

why dont you just pull off the side cover and have a look? are you sure it ate the bearing and didnt just drop them down in the side cover without extensily damaging anything? would be a pity to tear it apart and sell a few items then take the cover off and find out it wasnt that bad but then not have whatever parts you sold......

just a thought, goood luck either way

i would listen to bergini he is right after you have sold some parts it will definatley be too expensive to rebuild.
i would completely strip the motor as iv had a cam bearing fail before , the cage that holds the ball bearings in had fell out and i found the cage in my gearbox it was nearly a full circle how it made its way in my gearbox i dont know and the cage from the other side of the bearing i found all chewed up in tiny pieces all around the bottom end .
but as bad as this sounds there was no damage to any other part of the engine.

you can buy 2 new cam bearings for less than £10 and dave clarke at DCR sells a full gasket set for £33, so it could be repaired for around £40 as long as the bearing pieces have not damaged any thing else.

cheers kris
