Having starting problems, as I have also removed battery and starter and have week legs!
I also have no acc pump now and am thinking I may need to change starting jet?
All I could get out of it was a backfire and a kick back!

ideally you need a #80 or an #85 depending on what needle staright you have.

had a customer here yesterday. terrible starter, yet had an #85. checked his jetting, fitted a kit and now it's fine. wasn't the choke jet but the jetting. think of the main circuit as the cream on the milk. not much of it but decidedly important.

get that APJ going again.

Taffy

Ok Taff I put a bigger main in at the same time but only from 150 to a 152 my next one would be a 160 should i try that?

Thanks spanner

but that has little to do with how you're going to start the bike, surely you can see that? do you HAVE a starter jet?

regards

taffy

Taff still got the standard start jet fitted, not sure of the size.
Has always started with no problems with the electric start even with the acc pump removed. Have Dales needle fitted. Thanks for the help.

#85 start jet according to the parts list.
When the swelling in my knee goes down I might try a 160 MJ
In the DOC it says:
''On the keihin carb even the MJ affects starting - seriously!"

RU-4410 the mount spigot I made is 3 1/2" which is offset to the bottom to gain clearance.
I have a Keihin bellmouth inside.

Taffy,

I am thinking if I can hook up the acc pump so it can be operated by hand, a bit like the old Amal
carburetors, "tickler" pushed the float down to flood fuel in to richen the starting mixture.

My knee is better now.

Cheers spanner.

Done it, a bit of that fishing trace that you twist and fuse with a lighter.

Cut the bit off that runs on the acc pump cam.

Cut a small piece out of the plastic cover with a sharp knife

The acc pump can now be operated manually from down by the float bowl with one finger pulling forward.

Works a treat!

Will wait to next weekend to try and start.

The difference to performance is huge.
Really makes all the other mods come alive.
