Plugged hole

The hole in the picture marked with the red arrow was plugged completely with liquid seal, could this have been the reason for my engine breaking dow, or is it an unimportant hole?

well, you have an oil pump that pushes oil around your engine. it starts in the right case and has to eventually move to the left case. that is the point where it happens.

it means that your top end gets no direct oil feed and i would suggest that there are a few other places as well. if you were lucky, someone would come along and show you a 'cutaway' of the engine with the directions of the oil feed. that would help you.....
