Hey All,

As the title says really. This is not a document intended to replace the hard start guide or anything in the Doc. It is meant to compliment them by giving a specific answer to specific questions relating to the e-start - that always turn up on the site - and a specific step by step guide to setting up only the e-start.

I would welcome questions and constructive suggestions and/or addition please as it is in first draft mode as it stands. I have literally just thrown it together as is but I'd like to get it complete and make it available to the forum ASAP.

All the best,
Simon

That's pretty good but I guess we could improve it with photos.

I decided to take photos over every little operations I do on my bike and to put them in my gallery, knowing that I was a total newbie and had to learn the hard way, I simply take the photos and type descriptions I would have loved to see and read back then. I guess I can help a bit.

Now, by "bob weight" do you mean the "auto decompression shaft"? I think we should use terms that are exactly as written in the manuals, because with all our different dialects and backgrounds, sometimes there could be a confusion.

But good job so far, someone had to do it, glad you're doing it!

Hey LeFrog,

Thanks for giving it a look over.

Yeah, I agree, it could do with photos but I wasn't able to take any due to a faulty camera. If anybody has photos I can use then great.

I do think I say at the beginning of the guide that I will use the term bob weight and why..

So, given all the troubles with the e-start, nobody else has seen fit to read through and have a look?

All the best,
Simon

Hi Simon
True to your word i see
Thankyou, that's very good.
Only one or two comments fom me.
First section: No 1. Nothing happens when push the button - Could be a fault with the switch.
" " No 5. Starter doesnt engage - Could be old or poor quality oil.
" " No 6. Screaming noise from clutch - Could be plates run dry of lubrication (usually at front)

Just suggestions...
Thanks again
Ady

well simon

i had a quick look and would suggest that you're a bit too freindly in there. the facts are in some good chat.

secondly, i'd say that as most of us are useless at electrics: although you''ve pointed people in the right direction, you haven't equiped them with the tools to get it sorted. for me it's easy - i'm a numpty at electrics so unless i'm told exactly what to do the info is useless.

"with the multimeter to hand hold the clips....flick the switch to volts...reading should be...."

just my ten pence mate. if it's like the doc, i sneak in there and change info without telling people sometimes as i have changed my mind....!

regards

Taffy

Taffy, as far as electrics are concerned, we are just talking about volts and ohms readings between terminals, nothing more.

A good decent multimeter is all one needs. If you can change the batteries in your TV remote, you can test your stator. (Even a budget POS multimeter from a discount tool store would do the job).

As far as the rest, for instance checking that everything is connected properly, grounded properly, that the terminals are in good shape, it does not take a PHD in electric engineering.

By that I mean that we all can do it.

Very helpful info. Organized nicely. Might add a sentance or 2 about the larger starter and bracket off the newer bergs as an upgrade on the older bikes where you talked about the larger 7 series battery. Decompressor section was impressive.
