HI CAN ANYONE PLEASE GIVE ME INFO,I HAVE A 650 03 BERG AND HAVE BEEN OUT TO DAY FOR A RIDE ,AFTER 20 MINS STOPPED AND SWITCHED IT OFF, THATS WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED.
I TRIED TO START THE BIKE FOR ABOUT 30 MINS BUT WOULD NOT START,FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OK CARRIED ON RIDING FOR ABOUT A HOUR AND STOPPED AGAIN SWITCHED OFF AND THOUGHT IT WOULD OF STARTED .
I SPENT A HOUR TRYING TO START IT OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE MILES FROM ANYWHERE AND GETTING WORRIED ,I FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AND MANAGED TO GET HOME SO STRIPPED THE TANK OFF ANDTOOK OUT THE PLUG THE PLUG WAS A GREY IN COLOUR BUT NOTICED THAT IT TOOK A LOT TO GET A BIG BLUE SPARK OUT OF IT .
IS IT POSSIBLE THE STATOR CAN BE BRAKING DOWN WHEN IT IS HOT ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY TAKEN.

It is a possibility that the stator could be playing up, first question has it always started ok in the past and this is the first time it has acted this way?.
Heat is a killer of insulation this why stators pack in when the engine is hot, if the engine starts relatively easy from cold then it is a possibility.
But it could also be a carb issue if you are on the Dellorto, if you have needle and atomiser wear it will give a rich condition if this is the case it will give hard starting when the engine is hot.
To test the performance of the spark remove plug and the plug cap, place the lead 10mm from the engine away from the plug hole and on a normal kick it should jump the 10mm gap if you have to close the spark gap to say 5 to 6mm them yes you probably do have a stator problem.
Can you take some resistance readings the main one red to black should be around 3000 Ohms and black to green 165 all plus minus 10%.

Regards

Sparks.

RE: Re: PLEASE HELP !

THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY SPARKS,I CHECKED THE GAP ON THE SPARK AND IT GREAT SO I STRIPPED THE CARB TO CHECK THE JETS THE NEEDLE IS A 51,I ALSO HAVE A 180,35 45 AND A 268 DR I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE AND REPLY WOULD BE GREAT THANKS AGAIN.

DO YOU HAVE A WORKSHOP MANUAL ?

A WORKSHOP MANUAL WILL GIVE YOU ALL THE BASIC INFORMATION YOU NEED .

You have not answered all of my questions as is of above. I am not conplacent with the Dellorto so I can't comment on the set up you have, Taffy is probably the best man for this. But if you look through the Owner's Doc there is alot about jetting the Dellorto, but needle and atomiser would be my first guess or your techneque.

The gap on the plug is just one of the areas you need to check. Sparks asked that you check the resistance on the leads from the stator. if your stator is shot, then plug gap won't make a bit of difference.
