I am getting Zilla's 2001 FE501e. I'd like to know what maintenance schedule I should stick to and what to inspect on a regular basis. Also would like to know what to expect could break over a long period of time and how to avoid it/fix it.
I am not totally motorcycle stupid. I took care of a lot of technical problems myself, I just have a hard time when it comes to taking care of the bottom end and never have split an engine myself but I have done the top end of my 125 SX myself, including cleaning up, polishing and changing all the gaskets (I did break a piston ring, though). Also worked on front and rear suspension (changed fork springs on the DRZ and rear spring on the KTM).
But I have never owned a big bore 4-stroke before. I am a technical guy, I can learn all this stuff (I am a 100% self taught software engineer) but a few pointers would really be helpful.
Any book, Web site (besides this one) I can look at?
